I scratched up one of my burnt DVD movies the other day so much that it was unreadable. I was wondering if there was gonna be a loss of quality if I borrowed a friend's copy that I burnt for him to burn myself a new DVD. Hopefully my question makes sense. Can you backup a backup?

If you do a straight disc copy of the copy the quality loss should not be enough to notice. It would only degrade if re compressed more. You should be ok.
