If you have to go and search for a universal that MIGHT work.and pay most likely over $50 for it.......plus the price of a DVD recorder with 80gb hard drive.......NOT WORTH IT. Sorry to bust the bubble but i had one and quickly returned it.......THERE ARE NO USEFULL HACKS.....every dvd player has the Macrovision hacks.......Total garbage i sure you can sell it on ebay. With the ilo 1 remote to turn it on........1 remote to control the TV LOL

If you know what you're doing, you can find a learning remote that WILL work, without any problem. And you can probably find one for a lot less than $50 - and it will control alot more than your tv and dvd recorder. If you don't think its worth it, and you don't know how to use or program one, yes, you may have some problems. That's one of the things that is so great about the harmony remotes - they're so simple, even a tech-newbie could program them.

    [ DonnyDon ]

Why don't you send me that piece of garbage D04 you have, If you have one. I will pay the freight and you can be rid of that junk And I will feel good that you have been relieved of your burden.

As to a Universal Remote. There is no such thing even using jp1.
While you may get a good unit like mine with jp1 and memory.

[ THE BUTTONS DO NOT,WILL NOT MATCH ]

I use it for basic functions for specific functions I use the Original

I expect trolls to maintain certain standards of clever noxiousness.

DD says that the ILO hacks do not exist; I've wondered about this.

Then he blithely remarks by way of denigrating the ILO that all DVD players have (macrovision) hacks.

Of course that's not true, at least for ordinary, non industry folks, but if it is true I'd love to buy a Pioneer DVD recorder and hack it. Never heard a thing about this...he's not a very good troll.

Do you think he works for Philips? Or is he unemployed? Laid off by ILO, perhaps.

I have acquired a DVRHD04 that someone tried to hack and it no longer works. Can i purchase a motherboard for this unit to replace the one which no longer works? Have tested the drives and they both work in another unit. Unit asks for cd. Tried to put in downloaded firmware but it didn't work either.

I posed this question once before and got no response. My ILO no longer recognizes DVD+Rs. When I put one in, it seems to be stuck on preparing. I also notice over in the lower right hand corner little red letters that say RW and I can neither watch nor record to Rs. In fact, it ruins them so they cannot be watched on any other machine or computer either. I have the latest 1201 firmware installed. Anybody gots any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem as you dude. I am about ready to scrap this piece of shit. But you got to be patient. The folks on this forum are good people and I don't think my ILO would have made it this far without their help. I'm still waiting for a fix or some kind of solution also. When this thing was working it was awesome. Now it's just collecting dust. Let's just wait and see if someone finds a trick to fix it or my 12 gauge shotgun is gonna have it's way with it.

dayturner, RAPR, It is NOT the same problem. He tried doing the hack and it went 99% then stopped. Now it asks for cd but will not recognize any cd. Unit wont go past that. No start up nothing. I'm looking for a new board i can put in to put it back to the original firmware ect. Yours seems to at least boot up!! Try going backwards on the firmware, you never know. But remember it may end up like the one i'm in possesion of.

    (DAYTURNER)

Way to go. That was my first thought a month or 2 ago so I tried it and it didn't work at all. I'm glad it worked for you though. I have tried everything and it doesn't want to read the discs at all. I tried 3 different lens cleaners, different dvd discs and nothing. I put a movie in and it played fine. When I try a DVDR it will record for a a little while then stop recording all by itself. Then it won't read, finalize or recognize the disc and the disc is now a coaster. It gets old after awhile. I get so sick of the message BAD DISC!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least it worked for 11 months with no problems. Anybody have any ideas on what to buy for a good dvd recorder? One that works.

Well, do not give up without first contacting ILO support. You never know, they may be able to help even if you are out of warrenty. Email for technical support is [bold]service@ilohelp.com[/bold] which makes it difficult if you think you are looking for "support." I keep watching and there are more and more companies coming out with this type of machine and some, I think, are now even less than we paid for our ILOs. I have been mostly happy with my ILO and will use it as long as it works. I will probably go with a more reliable name when it comes time to replace it. Meanwhile, I have more dvds sitting around in less than a year than I can ever watch!!!

The ilo did have its problems but so did many others. ilo was not alone with the green tint problem. Others had issues like the Pioner [a very good machine] but it had problems with dubbing VSH to DVD and weak sinal input. Much if not all has been corrected.
At the time the ilo price compaired to others was very attractive. Now if a RHD04 sells at WalMart online for $298 and a LiteOn 5045 sells for $298 I would get the LiteOn 5045 with Allwrite and a 260 gb HDD, but thats Now

Liteon now has a LVW 5045GDL+ and a LVW 5055GDL+ with 250 gb HDD.
Not avail YET in the US but it wii be

I bought the Walmart DVDRHD04 on the 31 of December 2004. I used it quite a lot - loved the HDD - had no problems editing. Copying from HDD to DVD worked just great until October 2005. It would not read a dvd it just created. I could not finalize a dvd it just created, finally it calls everything an invalid disk.
emailed ilo. AFter a month of doing everything they suggested, I sent it in for repair. When I received it back, I found it wasn't mine but one supposedly repaired. I had been told that I didn't need to copy off the hard drive to a vcr as they wouldn't mess with it. Of course the replacement has a scrubbed HDD.
It worked almost two days and now won't read it's own creations. I am a little ticked about this because I have to pay to send it in. Now I will probably have to do it again.
It crashed several times in the past, but I kept up on the patches and haven't had this problem for a time.
Any suggestions on any more reliable brands? I really liked the ILO but what good is it in transit to be repaired?

My experience has been exactly the same as the preceding poster (bob_e) except that I bought mine a month or so earlier and it quit working in June. It still plays what I have on the hard drive and I can record to it but it has ruined over two hundred disks that were brand new and has ruined several others when I tried to copy additional material to them.

I have never had any luck in getting it to format DVD+R disks. It destroys them as fast I can load them so I have no idea if it would finalize them. Also, the tray keeps sticking.

I'm not going to waste the time and money sending it in to let them screw it up and lose the many programs I've recorded to it. I'll just watch and delete.

It is truly a piece of crap.

My mistake. It quit working in August. Not June.
