Hi Damoran I am wondering why you would want to use the German firmware/burner update for your UK "H" model. What problems have you experienced with the "H" model that the German "S" model firmware might fix? Cheers Silver64
Hi Silver, Thanks for the reply. Like most of the others on this board seem to have, I have the timer problem wherby the machine only records from the timer when it feels like it. I understand the German update sorts this problem out. Also, I thought the burner updatemight make the machine a little less "fussy" over which brand of blank DVDs it will recognise. I haven't actually checked which version I have already ... of course I would check that before loading any update anyway.
Damoran, The timer problem with the "H" model you mention was touched on in an earlier post. Sometimes after I set the timer and switch the machine off, the timer standby light may go out as well. Therefore always make sure when you switch the machine off (after setting it up to record) that the timer standby light remains on. If it should go out just press the timer "on" button again and the light will come on. I'm not sure that the "S" firmware will fix this But if it does let us know. Also I haven't really come across a problem with the brand of DVD-R media I've used though I haven't tried 16x media as yet. 2x,4x and 8x all seem to be fine. The only problem seems to be with -RW where the Sharp perfers 2x! Cheers
Does anyone have the newer models, with Guide Plus+? I can't seem to get it to set up. I've connected the RF cables, made sure the sharp can control my set-top box (a fairly modern Pace), tuned the sky box to Eurosport on 410, and left it overnight. It seems to do something, and displays EPG on the display panel (as though it's trying to download it), but no joy. I can't use ITV terrestrial because we can't get terrestrial. I don't actually subscribe to sky, so I don't get Eurosport, but I still get Eurosport teletext, so it should work (right?). Any advice, ideas, etc?
Hiya, a bit of an update... I got home and changed the set-up. 1. Took the RF cable out. When I did this, it couldn't get a signal from the sky box at all. So I put it back. 2. Redid the guideplus setup, specifying that it should get the epg from Line 2 (the scart in from the sky box). Turned the skybox to 410 (eurosport), put the recorder and standby, and waited. Pretty soon, it tried to get the EPG*, and it seemed to take longer this time (although I might have just been more impatient). Still no joy. I'm still not getting the EPG. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? * When left in standby, the recorder seems to try and get the EPG pretty frequently. Is this only a one-off, or is it likely to continue to do this constantly while in standby? Am I going to have to leave it on all the time when I want to watch tv? TIA.
Hi there Rach2k Seems like it's time for you to start a new thread specifically for the 400 series. This forum was set up for Sharp 300/350's and all this new jargon on Electronic Program Guides (EPG)etc is way beyond the "ken" of us old hands using last years model. Maybe there will be a 400 series user out there who has a look at us "old fogies" and who is able to answer your queries, maybe you'll become the "expert" for the 480 and we'll come to you for advice when we finally upgrade but at the moment I think you'll be lucky to get an answer to your query on this site. all the best Happy Xmas, Silver64
Hello, Having a problem with the DV-HR300. Occasionally, the last 5 or 6 seconds of a recording seem to be faulty. When I'm in the "Erase Scene" option, and I try to remove the end of a file, the unit either freezes or the edit has no effect. It seems to be the last 5 or 6 seconds of a recording that cannot be deleted. Does anyone else have this problem, or a solution? Thanks.
To Dillenger Thanks for the reply. I tried registering the new HDD with the Sharp 300 but now whent the HDD is getting full it refuses to stop recording! I have to power off, which leads to mangled/invalid recordings. There are still instances where recordings get corrupted - at some stage they stop or suddenly get audio from another recording and vision freezes. I may replace the 80G drive if this goes on. I have updated the firmware... may check to see if there are further updates, but I doubt it. Cheers Mark nylon.net
Hi micky345, The 300 needs it to be a certain length in order to be able to edit the end or the beginning out of any recording made. Never timed how long it needs to be, but I can tell you it's quite normal for this particular unit. Manny
Hi all. I've been getting the feeling that this discussion has outgrown its home. The forum can't handle threaded replies, which makes it hard to follow a topic. I don't know whether you're interested or not, but I have created a Sharp forum on my domain to discuss the DV-HR300 and other Sharp models. I've copied this entire thread to the new forum for reference. It may make discussion easier. Have a visit, if you like - the URL is http://nylon.net/bb/. If you'd rather stay here at afterdawn, that's fine. Hooroo. Mark
Hi Mark ....very nice site. It does help to have it condensed a bit huh. Thanks for sharing it. Yep my unit is still going strong. Although nowadays I've been using it more as a DVR for TV programs. But I still love this machine, a bit fussy about the disc's it will finalize. It seems to prefer the slower speeds over the higher speed discs. cheers, MannyCAM
Hi Manny Happy New Year! Good to hear your 300 is still going strong (like mine). I know you never needed or wanted to make your Sharp multi-region. Being in the U.S, why would you. However the attraction for UK and other countries is that we can buy cheaper and watch releases much earlier by purchasing U.S. or Canadian discs via the Internet. I made my Sharp multi-region shortly after got the hack off this forum. Sadly the original CD's I downloaded to enable the MR hack I've lost and I am wondering if any Forum member has copies or has a link through to the website that contained the details. I would like to help a fellow Sharp 300H user go multi-region but I can't without the firmware. Can anyone help. Many thanks Silver64
Hi Silver I can also create a download centre with the nylon.net forum if people find it useful. Mark
Hi ho, Silver64, I'll be only too happy to oblige with discs for the multi-region hack, but I wonder if you could do me a favour at the same time. As I mentioned in a posting on 29th Nov, the DVD recorder on my beloved Sharp packed up 2 months after my guarantee expired and, being reluctant to fork out 280 quid for repairs, I've replaced it with a cheap machine for recording purposes. I've still got a fantastic video recorder, of course, but that's all it is now. Trouble is, I've got unfinalised dvds that are now unreadable by either my Sharp OR the new LiteOn machine. Any chance of finalising them for me? It may not work, but I'd certainly like to give it a try. I've been meaning to post about this for the last month!! Let me know, and I'll send you those hacks, no matter what your response is. Regards, Peter.
Hi Petomane ( Peter) I've sent you a private message and hope I can help Best regards John ( Silver 64 ) PS Doesn't Petomane mean ( politely "Breaking Wind!)
HEY SILVER!!! Happy New Year to you too. Well we've been on this forum for 2 years now? WOW...yep it's still working. Gotta say one thing for the old Sharp it takes a licking and keeps on ticking. kind regards Silver, Manny
Hi Nylonnet (Mark) Thanks for posting that MR link. I made my 300H Multi-region a long time ago when the MR patch was first posted by EA5E from Australia. Target10 ( Nigel) you could try the link as above. Best of luck Silver64 ( John)
