Hello Silver64, I've always assumed that your nom-de-plume came about because you're a silver-surfer who happened to be 64 when assuming your alter-ego. Could be wrong, of course... Pretty much the same in my case. On retirement, I officially became an "old fart", and "Petomane" ( a nice compression of my actual name) was born. I won't tell you what my super-hero special powers are - suffice to say I can clear a large room in 3 seconds flat... Thanks for the message, which I'll respond to when I've podted this. Regards, Peter.
Hi Peter You got it right in one! "Silver 64" (that was a year ago but I can't be bothered changing). Happily retired and enjoying my PC and my Sharp. I just hope I'll still be around when Blu-ray and HD-DV comes along and Sharp joins that scene. I'm right into "gadgets" and new technology and I must say again that DVD HDD recording has been a mega leap from VHS.I suppose a larger Hard Drive would be an advantage on my Sharp but I find that having only 80 Gig means I must either watch the program I have recorded or burn it to disc. The latest Sharp has 250 Gb but if I had that much space I think I would end up never watching anything. I have transferred my camcorder tapes to DVD using the Sharp also old VHS family videos and have found it ideal and so much easier than using my PC for the same job. I'll be happy to try and finalise those discs you have a problem with and keep my fingers crossed that it'll work via my 300. Cheers Silver64
Hi all Silver, I've just downloaded those files, transferred them to disc & tried the installation. Guess what? I still get error message 20E rather than succesful 208. (the second disc does change from 300 to 307) Fiddlesticks!! edit: the manual says it's a 350H. Does this make a difference.? Nigel
Tempting though it sounds, Silver, there's one draw-back with a large Hard Drive where the Sharp is concerned. Some problems can only be resolved by re-initializing the HDD, and that means a heck of a lot of backing up needs doing. I've had to do it twice to date, and it can be a major operation. Can you imagine trying to dub 250 gigs-worth of films before you can actually do that!! (If the demned DVD recorder actually WORKS, he moaned) Regards, Peter
Target 10, This doesn't seems to be an uncommon problem! It shouldn't be a problem being a 350H. The original hack was posted for a 350 and mine is a 300H. Another member is going to send me the Hack which I'll pass on when received Cheers Silver64
Peter ( Petomane) I understand what you say about the the larger HDD. Can't say I've had a problem initializing the Hard drive but like a PC it's always a good idea to "re-format" the hard drive on a regular basis to clean it up. As I've said; having only 80 GByte HDD disciplines one to erase old recordngs to the bin or transfer to DVD. I've often wondered if other brands of DVD recorders have had similar "problems". "Touch wood" I haven't had any problems with my Sharp but one should appreciate DVD recording is a relatively new operation and one has only to appreciate how PC internal DVD recorders have gone from 2x to 16x and now dual layer in the past couple of years. Sad that you've had a major problem that meant you had to buy a rival brand. My mate has gone for a new Sony HXD710 but I'd be facing a problem as to what I would replace my trusty 300H with should it go on the blink Best regards Silver64
Hi ho, Silver, Your comments about gadgets and new technology certainly hit the spot, and by far one of the GREATEST benefits is "compression". I recently bought the "X Files series 1" box-set for just £12.99 (when a new VHS film release will cost a few pounds more). The box-set is just over an inch thick (not much more than a video). If I bought the WHOLE kit'n'caboodle (9 series), the Videos would take up about 45 inches of shelf-space, while the DVD sets would only require 10. It's little wonder that video sales have plunged, and that you can pick up "X Files" Video box-sets on eBay for a pound!
I have a new problem when i will on the HR 350 a movie edit and erase last few minutes from the movie the HR make allright but when i show me the movie again the part that i have deleted is presented and not deletet. And this problem make it only when i delete some from the end of the movie when i deleted some minutes on start or in the mittle from the movie ist deleted forever. Can make on the HDD someone as Scandisc or Defag or a another test? Thanks for help
supra66 Seems like you may have a similar problem to mickey345 as detailed above. Could it be the edit you are trying to do is from the hard drive of the Sharp when it's almost full of old recordings? It's always a good idea to occasionally intiialize the Hard Drive thus wiping everything and then starting off with a "Clean" hard dive. Like a PC the Sharp appreciates a "defrag" or an "initailize" as it's called on this unit. Hope this helps Silver
Hey all, Any news on whether you could get the MR patch working again. Does it matter if you burn it to cdr or does it have to be a dvd? I am sure that is a stupid question, but hey...i'm new at this! Thanks
My dv-hr300h packed up 4 days before a year when I filled it up and they repaired it at the shop. Had it back for about 6 months now and the unit has started to change it's date and time whilst on timer record usually back to 31 dec 05. I reset it back to normal date/time then set it to record and it does it again. I've not had any loss of power as my alarm clock etc has been fine. Any suggestions. Help? Can anyone also advise how to make unit multi-region or point us in right direction (with 20+ pages to read takes long time to find part you want) Cheers Nick
Hi Cable77, "Does it matter if you burn it to cdr or does it have to be a dvd?" No not really, a file is a file and as long as the deck can read the file itself it won't matter about the media type you use. Moreover the Sharp will play CD/RW and CD/R discs. The patch should be small in file size so no sense burning it to a DVD. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Manny "MannyCAM"
nickie745 Just curious, will it record the program at the scheduled time? Even with the odd time change? regards, MannyCAM
ANYONE- I have a 300U and every so often throught the day the thing beeps/buzzes 2-4 times. i.e. buzz buzz buzz. Anyone having the same issue. Other than this it seems fine. The unit is on 24x7 if that helps. Thanks, Lehe
No error message or any message of anykind. There are not even timers set. I just leave it on to use it a switcher. I will record something everyonce and a while and I have never burned a DVD. Thanks, Lehe
Hi - after years of random freeze ups - my DVHR300H has now started coming up with an error message "Repairing Disc" and then comes up "Unable to repair disc" and stops when trying to dub from hdd to dvd (and also when recording direct to dvd from an a/v input). I've tried the reset, cycling the power etc. but still does it, . I've tried three brands of disc and all do the same. The instruction manual says this comes up because of some interruption to the recording cycle (ie due to a power failure for example??). Be glad of any idea's, before I throw this heap of junk in the bin.
Hmmmm that one's got me. Never had that happen, or to anyone on this forum. Maybe someone else can address this for you.
batpants, How many years have you had it? Have you tried re-intializing the unit? Using a different outlet across the room, or in another room. MannyCAM
I've had it about two years now - got it free with the TV, to be honest I haven't really used it for burning much, just used the hdd, however I have a VHS Tape for a friend and want to put it on DVD. How do I re-initialize? is this different from the reset/power toggle and will it wipe the hdd?
