I have a digital set top box connected to my sharp. I record in widescreen to hard drive and can watch it back later in widescreen. Sometimes I want to get some clip from the sharp to the computer so i can capture a frame or send a small clip to someone, So I copy the clip from the harddrive to a dvd-r on the sharp then put disc in computer and use dvd decrypter to copy to the computer harddrive. But when I go to watch this clip, it's not in widescreen anymore. It looks more 4:3 than 16:9. Why is this?

Thanks hanugro! Optic head error seems to be causing my problems. I have installed German firmware but I can't say for sure that the firmware is working with Singaporean player because I have the optic head problem :) Version numbers on the screen changed though so I think it's working okay.

OK, Sharp SIngapore has told me that it is likely to be hardware problem. But they will send me the latest firmware first to see if it solves the problem. I have not receive the latest firmware and will update you all if it works.

Hi Pipo 2 (Phil) I think maybe Goodison may have the patch you are looking for. Hope so anyway. Over to you Goodison (many thanks)

    Hi all
I'm also looking for a multi region hack for the Sharp DV-HR350X (would even be willing to try one for the 300X). If anyone can help out I'd be eternally grateful.

    Hi,

This weekend I inserted a DVD disk I borrowed from the library. My 350S didn't seem to be able to read the disk, because the DVD light kept on blinking for too long. I opened the tray, checked the disk that seemed to be scratched quite a bit, but I decided to retry it. After inserting it again, the same happened, but now I couldn't even open the tray any more, nor shut down the system.
Holding down the eject or power button didn't help either. In the end, only unplugging the system made it turn off. After plugging it into the power again, the HDD and DVD buttons keep blinking again, and shutting down still isn't possible.
Did anyone encounter this problem before and have any suggestions? I'd like to preserve what's on my HDD, if at all possible.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi DOrian
Just a thought. Have you tried the reset button? I don't think this should affect any recordings on the HDD but should fix the other problems

Thanks Silver - I hadn't tried it yet, because I was afraid of losing recordings on my HD.
Now I've tried it, but unfortunately it didn't help: the HDD and DVD leds keep blinking like before. I tried pressing the reset button briefly or for a longer period of time, but nothing changed...
Any other suggestions? Is there a "hardware eject" anywhere, like the little push-holes in PC CD/DVD drives?

    Hi Again DOrian
I seem to recall there was a previous post on the Forum which mentioned an eject point located on the base of the unit which you could press something pointed into ( careful) and just like a CD/DVD tray on a PC the tray should open. I can't confirm this as I would need to disconnect my Sharp and take it out of a TV stand/unit etc. Have a look and let us know if this is correct
    Best of luck

Yes confirm I saw the post on page 22. It refers to a small hole on the base of the machine where you can push in a small screwdriver and eject the tray. Also noted on an earlier post "Try unplugging the machine, then plug it back in, then hit the dvd eject button first. This will turn on the machine and eject the drawer as soon as it's booted up". All the best Silver64

    Hi Silver,

I'm trying to access the drive's front side (where I suppose the eject hole should be, but that doesn't seem to be that easy. I removed the 4 screws that fix the drive to the bottom plate, and unplugged the power cable at the drive's back end. I can tilt the backside up, but the frontside seems to be "loosely" connected to the front panel of the unit (I suppose it's somehow connected to the tray's front that comes out when the drive opens). Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your endless support! ;-)

    Cheers,

    D0rian

The previous post didn't mention having to take the Sharp apart. The hole should be located on the base of the recorder!
Hope you haven't done any damage
    Cheers Silver

Oops, Silver, I indeed forgot to check your latest answer before opening the unit! Shame on me! ;-)
But no worries - I didn't damage the system at all (I'm not afraid of digging into the hardware of my computer either, so I know where to stop...)

    Indeed, dillenger said:
    "-When your disk won't eject.
on the bottem of the recorder is a little hole , with a small screwdrive or pencil you can release your disk. (move the slide) "

I just wonder where that hole is - did anyone ever try this?

BTW, I also already tried the "hit the eject button first" trick before posting here, because that's indeed what normally works when a disk won't eject...

    Cheers,

    D0rian

In my travels with this unit I obtained 2 different actual service manuals (not users manuals), one just for the us/canadian dv-hr 300u and one that includes a number the european models. Anybody who wants them, send me a pm and I will send you the file.

Update: The European Manual I have contains models: DV-HR300S,H,X and DV-HR350S.
The American/Canadian manual I have has only model DV-HR300U.

    Hi kmbrite,

Thanks again for sending me the manual, because it helped me to open the tray, at last!
For others who need to open their stuck DVD tray: the release trick is to push the little white latch in the bottom of the machine, where the oval black plastic "hole" is.
It did take me a lot of force to make the tray open, because it was really firmly stuck (the disk turned out to be moved out of its normal position in the tray, which made the tray unmovable).
So I'm a step further again, but a new problem popped up: the tray keeps opening again and again when I close it. It doesn't read any disks anymore - so I'm afraid I'll have to return the machine to the vendor for repair. But at least, it now starts up so that I can still watch the last few bits I recorded on the hard disk...

    Thanks again, km!

You are welcome, Dorian. You might try resetting the whole unit by shutting off the power and unplugging it for a couple of hours. Keep it off long enough so the unit has no saved settings and then reset.
    You never can tell...
