Hopefully someone can help.. I shot some footage with my Sony Mini-DV camcorder. then I brought it into my PC using FIREWIRE and edited it with adobe premiere 6.5. then exported the final product back to mini-dv. now I hooked up the sony Camcorder to my Emerson DVD recorder. Tried to copy the finished mini-dv project onto my DVD recorder and it tells me I can not do so and according to the manual it says the error I am gettting has to do with copy protection? I can however copy the RAW unedited footage. does anyone know why this is happening and how I can resolve the issue so I can copy my edited projects from mini-dv to my emerson dvd recorder??

    Thanks..

    Hi,
Has anybody that has done the Firmware upgrade for 8x DVD-R's had recording problems after the upgrade?
Here is the problem I am having, not sure if it is a result of the upgrade or a problem with the recorder.
First problem, Records fine but when you hit stop it goes to about 60% writing to disc it stops and says recording error E14 28052100. Also has done this but says cannot record to disc.
The second problem is that it writes to disc 100%, but when I try and type in the title name and it starts to write to disc it comes up cannot record to disc.
The other problem I had today. It wrote to disc 100%, but I tried to play it in the recorder before I finalized it and the display said 40 minutes into the movie, but it just started and it said power off on the recorder front display, but power would not go off until I hit power on the recorder itself, remote would not respond.
I have used my regular DVD's and 8x with the same result. This has happened about 5 times out of about 30 burns.

    Thanks,
    Budman28

I have an issue with my recorder I hope someone can help with. I shot with my SOny mini-dv camcorder.. I can then copy the raw unedited footage to the emerson DVD recorder fine. Now, If I take the footage using my XP PC and firewire and import it into PREMIERE 6.5, edit and then send the finished product back to my Sony Camcorder over firewire and THEN hook the camcorder using either SVIDEO or rca cables up to the EMERSON DVD recorder, the recorder tells me I am not allowed to copy the tape. The manual references copy protection. NOW since I edited this myself, why would there be any copy protection? I dont understand why I can copy the RAW footage but NOT the edited footage...

    Any help would be appreciated...

If your computer supports firewire, why are you even bothering trying to record with your emerson? Just import into your computer and buy a $50 dvd burner. Use TMPGenc DVD Author to make it into a nice DVD with menus. It'll save you more time and problems than you'll ever know.

I have a DVD recorder on my PC but for it takes time to convert the file to DVD video format, then make the menus and burn. For simple things, I want to just copy to DVD from the completed and transfered Mini-DV tape. I dont understand why this doesnt work?

Oh yea.. I also have old tapes that I would need to transfer back into my PC then convert, make menus etc.. just to put on a DVD when copying from the mini-dv to the Emerson would be OK but it doesnt work..

Doesn't take that long and the quality is so much better (Variable Bit Rate vs Constant Bit Rate). DVD santa can convert in real time on 2 ghz P4. Plus, Emerson doesn't make 100% compatible DVDs (they work on 95+% of all players).

well I have dvd santa but havent used it because I dont know how it handles a tape with more then one things on it where I want to make a menu or chapters.

BUT I still have th question as to WHY I cant copy from mini-dv to emerson after I edit in adobe premiere. I need to know why... I dont need to hear I should use a PC and dvd burner..

someone must have an answer to my question....

If you really want to copy it, try Simas GoDVD "Copythis". About $60 at best buy. Digitizes a copy protected signal as it goes in and outputs a non copy protected analog version of it, so you can copy "copy protected" material (for some reason, they copy protect the material in digital cameras). But I wouldn't waste the money, reencode into mpeg2 ( I can't believe it doesn't already output mpeg2 from the link in the camera) and author for very nice menus.

Remember fair use laws. You have the right to make one copy of anything you own, even if it is copy protected.

I have a question regarding copies of 'protected' media. I notice they have added a new phrase--"copying, even cases without money gain"--to the beginning of movies. This is like the old bugaboo that if you smashed a quarter with a hammer it would be "destroying Govt. property". In realithy--money you have you OWN. The only problem is altering it to be something it is not, and passing that in a transaction. If I chose to make a copy of something to be sure I always had it.

An observation and a question about the firmware upgrade...

    1. The WalMart circular last week lists the Emerson EWR20V4 along with a statement that it requires DVD-R 4x discs - so it looks like the firmware is still not current on the machines currently on sale.

    2. Early on in this forum, there were some posts about a record delay encountered after upgrading the firmware - the recorder would seem to start recording but lose the first bit of the program. Anyone who has performed the upgrade noticed this? or not?

I have a friend who has a Emerson DVD-VCR combo and likes it. But he only uses it to copy VHS tapes to DVD. He called Emerson and they mailed him firmware to upgrade, so it will take the 8x disk and it works fine.
I have an Emerson VCR and it is the worst piece of crap I have ever owned. This brand would be last on my list

Regarding the quality of Emerson. I THINK the TVs and VCRs are built by Thomson ELectronics--a big company that makes RCA, GE, Zenith,Admiral etc. and uses old brand names for the same design. They are pretty good and are cheaper. BUT--the Emerson DVD recorder is made by FUNAI--a good company. It's hard these days to find who makes what. Like the DVDs we all have...the price-point is hard to beat. For a hundred bucks it's worth experimenting and taking a chance. I find DVD players to be about the same...whether $25 or $250 in price....with maybe a few more bells and whistles on the costlier machine.

Same thing I would like to know.. as I mentioned I have an issue copying mini-dv tapes I edit in adobe premiere on windows XP. I can not copy the final edited tape to the recorder as the recorder tells me its copy protected. I have been told the device mentioned a few messages up should fix this but I dont know. Can anyone verify that this will work?

    Sima Copythis!

    http://shop.store.yahoo.com/federalstereo/simacopythis.html

    It works

My opinion is it is not worth it. Of course, I only have about a dozen copy protected VHS tapes that I might want to copy. If you have a tv tuner card in your computer, you can play with the burst rate and stabilize the picture that way.
