@aabbccdd, Million Dollar is great, but I wish Hilary Swank should have got up and starts to box with Billie "the bear" until she punch the shit out of Billie down to the ring. I was a bit disappointed when she couldn't get up and the next thing you know, she's in Christopher Reeve's shoe. Overall, it's a great story, good storyline, plus great actings from all of them and especiall Morgan Freeman.
Ok. I've seen both: Remake was nice, but just nice, there was nothing special but it was quite well-made regular action movie. Older one (as usual comparing originals and remakes) is much better.
I have a raging wife, sometimes. I'm assuming your inquiring about the movie Raging Bull, staring Robert DeNero. It can be rented through Netflix, If your in the US.
Those times won't never come back: Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Marathon Man, French Connection... They just don't do movies like those anymore By the way, does anyone like Mad Max?
I thought "Mad Max" was pretty good. When I first saw it, it had been dubbed into American English. I have no idea why since it was filmed in English in the first place. Everybody sounded like they had buckets over their heads. I guess somebody figured that Anericans couldn't understand Australian. I have it on DVD and it's much better not dubbed. Dubbing English with English sounded pretty stupid to me. Dave
Totally agree with you. And now all Hollywood doing is remaking a bunch of stuff from Japan, Korea and Hong Kong. Infernal Affairs aka The Departed, Ring/Ringu aka The Ring & The Ring 2, Dark Water aka Dark Water, IlMare is in production and it's doing a remake right now, OldBoy and A Tale Of 2 Sisters will be remake soon, The Eye will be remake soon, Colour Of The Truth will be remake soon, etc. You name it... I did enjoyed Taxi Driver and Raging Bull a lot. Another classic is "scarface" - Al Pacino is the man.
Mad Max made Mel Gibson. I was unaware that it was dubbed into US English. I sure would like to see non dubbed original.
"The Grudge" was a remake as well. Another worthless ripoff was the remake of Erik Skjoldbjærg's most excellent film "Insomnia" starring one of my faves - Stellan Skarsgård. As much as I like Pacino the remake didn't even come close. Great films shouldn't be bastardized just because lame American audiences can't handle subtitles or unfamiliar faces.
Mad Max was really dubbed because distributers thought that australian english would sound too strange for american box offices, and same version was sold also to most of the european countries. Version with original soundtrack was available only in australia and few other countries for a long time until the movie was released on DVD. I could say that dubbing this film was one of the worst mistakes made in movie industry, and probably they noticed it themselves because Road Warrior wasn't dubbed anymore as far as I know.
Yep, dubbing sucks big time. So, yeah... those bastards are definitely retarded. I'll take the original language with subtitles any day over any that has been dubbed period.
Neph, Sad but true.... I'm more than 100% agree with you. No offense to any particular American audiences as a members in here all right, and here's to Hollywood: "stop copying/remaking" and last but not least, stop ruining a good film. All I can say is... stop butchering foreign films and read the damn "subtitles".
yeah Mad Max is one of my fav. great low buget film and thoses were some fast bikes 1000 kaws. didnt like the follow up movies much though
My hearing has gotten so bad, that I quite often turn on sub, just to keep the volume down, and my wife from complaining. I have never had a problem reading subtitles. I rather enjoy foreign films.
