Nephilim... If you can remember...Gammera (2-m's or 1??) was always a pissed off dude except for a little chubby boy who everyone picked on...and when Godzilla got tanked and wanted to wipe out Tokyo...Gammera came a'spinnin' to do the kid's bidding. *Note: i have read that many of the Japanese monsters are from "fairy-tale" type legends in Nipponese folklore.
Hey has anyone seen requiem for a dream? Its such a good film although a tad old. Also i saw an old classic by roman palanski (not sure of spelling) called rosemarys baby over the weekend and it is a really good film (it was made in the mid sixties so its a tad old now). I have actually read a couple of the novels of sin city and can say that I understand why there was not a script writer on that film, its pretty close to frame for frame from what i have read. I love the old nior genre and hope they do end up making the film of max payne. Who would have thought that robert rodregez had so much diversity, I mean from desperado to spy kids to sin city. Also i have seen equelibriam and thought it was good but far from an all time great. Now fight club, that is an all time great.
A bit of trivia.... The apt. building in New York where "Rosemary's Baby" was filmed, the "Dakota", was the residence of John Lennon when he was killed. The same entrance where he died is the one pictured often in the movie.
hey Jmark, thanks for telling me that, I knew that building looked familiar for some reason. It is such an amazing building. Did you actually enjoy the film?
Have rented out equilibrium as some of you are raving about it. And last night I watched The Medallion (Jackie Chan), I love all his films, old and new. The same goes for Jet Li.
Speaking of Jet Li has anyone seen "Hero"? It would have to be the most butifull movie I have seen in ages. If you enjoy that check out "house of flying daggers" too. And they both have Zhang Ziyi who i personally think is one of the hottest chicks alive. sorry bout so many posts but i cant shut up when talking about films
Rosemary's Baby is indeed very powerful and chilling movie: If you liked it try to get your hands also on Polanski's two other horror/thriller movies, The Tenant and Repulsion. I just watched Repulsion couple of nights ago, and it was first movie for a long long time which scared almost shit out of me. No gore, no dazzling special effects - just pressuring atmosphere, very slowly developing horror and scary happenings without clear reasons. A real gem.
That sounds good, Im not a fan of "holywood scary" where they feel the need to show you big scary beast things, It just always ends up being a let down when you finally see whatever it is that is meant to be scary. Thants what i liked about rosemary, It freaked me out yet they only showed the smallest snipets of what was actually scary. Im sure my interpretation can scare me more than holywood and I respect any director that plays into that. I dont care if people disagree but the first film to scare me in years was the blair witch and I dont remember seing a damn thing in that film that was actually scary.
"Rosemary's Baby" was a great movie--a big edeal when it came out in about 1968. I went to the "Dakota" once while in NYC and it's still creepy looking--dark brown stone and sort of castle-looking. People still leave flowers for John Lennon at the doorway. In Rosemary's Baby the most memorable performance was Ruth Gordon (2 years later in "Harold & Maude"). She was a great actress--a really cool old lady--her husband Garson Kanin was a great writer of screenplays and they often collaborateted writing). Probably the most scary movie I ever saw in the theaters was "The Exorcist". It was REALLY scary in the 70's when movies were somewhat more tame. Who can forget the scene when Ellen Burstyn gets the priest to just come and look at her daughter to see if she was wrong about her being possessed...and when he goes in the room, she and the bed are in mid-air and that horrible voice is screeching obscenities! YIKES!! The rotary-head is still a classic scene in horror-moviedom.
I forgot something...when thinking of movies that are good to watch anytime...and this ia also a Roman Polanski movie--the brilliant movie---"Chinatown".
last night i watched Kingdom of Heaven - awesome movie, might watch Dead Meat or Gladiatress shortly...
A few nights ago i watched "wedding crashers" i thought it was great and funny. Its a movie i WOULD watch again
I watched Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children a couple of days ago (possibly a week by now) and all I can say is wow... this movie ROCK..!! All the graphics and actions are amazingly beautituful. If you're into actions and anime, then you don't want to miss Advent Children for sure. When I watched "Appleseed," I rated it 3 1/2 stars, but Advent Children is 4 1/2 or possibly 5 stars. However, this is only me and I understand that people are entitled to their own judgment, so anyways Advent Children is awesome.
Yeah final fantasy VII: Advent Children, is a great movie except its hard to read the subs, when they talk real fast.
Alien13, I totally agree with you to certain degree, but anyhow I would rather prefer sub instead of dub. I guess I got used to it by now after so many years of reading subtitles. I know it's hard at first, but now it seems normal to me. If I spot a scene that's talking too fast with the subtitles jumping too quick to the next one, then I'll just pause and read it real quick and then resume.
Yeah, i would rather have subs , than have it dubbed because the voices arent in sync with the mouths when done. and the voices dont always sound right for the character.
