Watched "Saw" last night--oops--I had already seen it. I can never remember what I have seen from Netflix. I will get "Saw 2" based on the reviews here.

I saw "Supernova"--and maybe I have it mixed up with another--but I REALLY liked it's plot as I remember. The space journey took them to s planet where a wierd "thing" was buried. The took it with them and studied it. After the figured it out--it was a sort of "bomb" from another civilization. The went around burying "bombs" and the goal was--whenever a race of beings dug it up and retrieved it--the thing would trigger a supernova on the sun for that solar system--killing everything and keeping their race free of competition. Kind of like "2001" I guess. I saw "2001" in Cinerama way back when it first out (during the Punic Wars I think). It was fabulous. Cinerama was spectacular...Just think of an Imax-Cinerama-3-D extravaganza

If you have a chance--sometime watch some of the serial episodes of the original "Flash Gordon" starring Buster Crabbe. The special effects are hilarious...the little space rocket they fly around the universe has a sparkler in its rear end--but--best of all, every time it took off the spacecraft would have 3 or 4 big "POW" explosions--it was backfiring on take off. Would you like to try intersteller travel in a vehicle that backfired... :)

when i was a lad (i was, honest), i used to love watching Flash Gordon every week, (at the time) i thought the effects and spaceships were superb. i still do but kids today would go mad if they watched stuff like that :)

My sister did shots at a bar with the director and writer of Saw. They brought that creepy clown doll with them and had him sat at the bar so my sister was buying shots for the doll :p

Regarding dolls...I can see all kinds of monsters from Killer Shrews to Aliens and they aren't scary--BUT--any of those "possessed" clown doll movies (like in the bedroom in "Poltergeist" or Chucky)--the kind that always do something evil while you look away for 5 seconds.

The people who made "Saw" were quite brilliant--they did a whole movie in some crappy old abandoned building--think hos much money was saved...a fortune. That movie did drive one thing home--if you get chained up somewhere--better HOPE you have an ELECTRIC SkilSaw or something. The old hacksaw was a bit cruel. A couple of years ago some guy got his hand stuck when climbing mountains and he had to cut his hand off to survive. They call that "GUTS" I think. Never go out in the wilderness now without a GPS thing-y that can send your location and distress signal.

I watched "Batman Begins" last night--Excellent movie. Christian Bale will always look like the yuppie who murdered people in "American Psycho". The best part to me was that there were not "cartoon" characters like Mr. Freeze of The Joker. It was a serious movie and much better. They only need to make ONE movie with the silly stuff...

Interesting how "one man's treat is another man's poison..."

I bought a DVD set of 50 old horror movies by Treeline Productions (I think on eBay--but you can buy direct as well) and it was really worth it--all the movies were from perfect master films...
Does anyone know of any other companies that sell these kinds of compilations at a decent price (horror, sci-fi). By the way...don't you just **HATE** people who have a seductive price--then GIG YOU for $57 shipping when it should be $3! Federal laws forbid making "profit" on shipping--that's why it always says..."shipping and HANDLING". The handling charge is limitless. Personally, I like my goods delivered without an excessive amount of greasy fingerprints from "handling".... :)

As was stated in the beginning of this thread, this could go on forever and it certainly looks like it has. 36+ pages. I definitely promote the idea but I have been watching this thread for a couple of months and it is really getting played out.

Isn't there another place on the web where people can get together and discuss "Seen Any Good Movies Lately"?

Afterdawn is a great site ... but was it designed for this purpose?

I am fairly new here...and I like the news about movies--but--I also like the various comments that may stray a little from the subject. The subject matter is sort of nebulous...the human touch makes it more fun for me. A far as being only for movie comments--they are many like that...and they are as useful as a restaurant menu--lots of things some hate and some love to eat. For me--I find out about movies I have never heard of--and might never know of if not for this forum. With a few semi-sarcastic notations--it is worth a look every day.

My next big favourite, Revolver. Summary:

New film by Guy Ritchie. Has Jason Stratham.

It is an amazing experience. Instant classic. Watch it when it comes out in North America.
