i didn't enjoy Ladder 49 too much, yup it was a sad story but i guess i just wasn't expecting the film to turn out like it did, i was expecting a much different film; i think they, well, made the film in honour of that huge tragedy i don't like to dwell on but maybe my perception of what the film was supposed to be about was actually the problem, ie if i'd have known that's what the film was really about i'd have had different expectations. i don't remember the hype about the film suggesting it to be a tribute film is what i'm getting at..

not sure that all makes sense, hope it does

I agree. Ladder 49 was only so-so for me only because it wasn't quite what I expected either. This was almost on the verge of being a girlie movie, which is fine too, but again, not what I was expecting. I figured it would be more of an action film. I loved the humorous parts of the movie, like when the guys were clowning around. The ending was good.

I watched Shawshank Redemption, great movie and possibly one of the best prison movie ever made (in my opinion). Storyline is great, both Tim Robin and Morgan Freeman are awesome.

Ladder 49 was one of the best movies that I have seen. It rated a 10, in my book.

I bought "War of the Worlds" yesterday at Wal-Mart and saw it for the first time. I REALLY liked it A LOT! I thought the alien beasts were quite creative and creepy looking...the way the machines came out of the ground was a new idea...Spielberg at his best. I think the one thing that REALLY creeped me out was that big foghorn sound the Tripods made to bring the kids back to the classroom. I rank it high up there...just a little below the movie "Rodan" that I saw as a kid in a theater. Admission back then was 20 cents. It's gone up since then.

I need some opinions on 3 movies I found on Netflix--

    1-"The Devil's Rejects"
    2-"High Tension"
    3-"Cronicas"

    Any reviews would be appreciated.

I just ran across an old movie...a good one if you've never seen it...from 1981..."Wolfen". Really good storyline and creatures I thought. I am going to watch again.

Stitch--more than a few times I like something that many do not in the horror/sci-fi category. I am pretty hard to scare or dazzle--but those things coming up out of the ground (and the sort-of story they were buried a long time ago waiting to come alive with those lightning bolts)...and I liked the creatures. And the mysterious and unexplained spewing of red goo was a new idea. The concept of digesting people and spreading them around is a new idea for sure. I usually fall in one direction or another and seldom in the middle--either a movie is creative and good or so bad it's funny as hell. It's the best part of 'scary' movies. It's the only genre of movies I try to watch all that come out--hoping for a new thrill. Or, a belly-laugh with silly stories or monsters. Like that movie with the "tooth-fairy" monster. :)

If you don't mind the movie being about 99.9% in Spanish I guess Cronicus was O.K. I have a problem trying to read the sub titles and pay attention to what's going on at the same time. Sort of like walking and chewing gum at the same time. There have been 3 War of the Worlds movies released this year. I thought the one with Tom Cruise was pretty good. The one with C. Thomas Howell was sort of mediocre and the other one (made in the time frame of the book) was awful. It looked like their computer graphics were done on a home computer, an old one at that.

Thanks for the rating on "Cronicas". I hate that sinking feeling when I pop in a movie and it's a sorry one. I am not aware of the C. Thomas Howell version of "War of the Worlds". He was good in "Hitcher"--especially for a guy that began as a bullrider at rodeos before acting.

The C. Thomas Howell version of War of the Worlds has been at Blockbuster for several months now. I guess the movie wasn't that bad, but it was made with a lot lower budget than the Tom Cruise one. Jake Busey makes an appearance in it if that tell you anything.

    Jmark,

If you're going to watch The Devil's Rejects, you might as well get House of 1000 Corpses first. I have Devil's Rejects here but did't want to watch it till I saw House of 1000 Corpses first cuz I'd never seen it yet, so I went out and bought it recently at WalMart for $7.50 and haven't watched either movie yet. I don't like watching a part 2 of something without seeing the part 1 first. Let me know if you like either of them.

Saw HP4 last night and have to say it was quite good. Even at 2 1/2 hours they still cut a ton from the book, but it's still worth seeing.

And yeah, I'm a big shawshank fan as well.

Got the live action Initial D movie in the mail the other day. Not bad. Way different than the storyline from the anime series. But the race scenes are done pretty well and make it worth reading subs.

I watch TNT channel alot--so I have seen "Shawshank" many times. But--I enjoy watching it over and over. Morgan Freeman was excellent in this movie--as in most of his movies. One of my favorites which I think ranks as 'classic'--is "Delores Claibourne" with Kathy Bates. Bates is very versitile and, I think, Oscar class in several of her movies.

A disapponting movie this year--"Million Dollar Baby"--it smacked of heavy-handed political correctness (girls can and will do "boy" things). The acting was good by all--Hillary Swank was very good--as always. Just not much of a story for me--sort of a 'who cares' movie

Does anyone remember those short (about 30 mins.) satirical movie-ettes spoofing big movies--i.e.--"Pork Lips Now","Hardware Wars", etc. I never see them any more.

Happy Thanksgiving to all-hope your cornucopias are all full.
