ATI and Nvidia have their new cards coming soon. ATI has the X1900 and Nvidia has the 7900. Apparently the X1900 in crossfire beats the 7800 GTX in SLI mode in every thing. Both cards are the 512 meg versions. Have to see what happens when Nvidia releases the 7900.
No review, I repeat, no review I have ever read from anyone/anywhere has there ever been a total 100% victory in benchmark testing from ATI, or Nvidia. None...so that's the boldest statement I've seen yet with no backup facts. Cards have to be of equal power to compare them too...and I've seen an ugly trend as of late when one card cannot compete with another, they wait until the next gen, or faster version comes out then claim victory. That just isn't right. The last of the Crossfire results I've seen left alot to be desired...and if the X1800 can't hang with the 7800, bringing out the X1900 to do it, is weak...and it's been ATI's card playing strategy the entire time.
The prototype benches for the X1800 in crossfire showed it beating the 7800GTX in most applications, though their legitimacy is in question. However, now twin 512MB X1800XTs are finally available in Crossfire, I'd like to see a real benchmark to prove/disprove it. The X1900 would surprise me if it beat the 7800GTX by an enormous margin as its speeds are lower than the nvidia card (which preceded it by a bit). However, we know it isn't all about speed, and hopefully ATi's ring architecture has helped here. At the moment, given AViVo I'm still ATi, mainly thanks to Gecube and their high-performance low-cost GPUs.
This is why said apparently http://theinquirer.net/?article=29057 .Of course this an article from the inquirer so it has to be taken with caution.
All we can hope for is that the X1900 series does end up cheaper. The X1800 series is actually quite cheap given it has been such a short time since release, and top range 512MB XT cards can be found for under £330 in the UK, compared with nearly £400 for the 7800GTX 512. If the performance of the X1900XTX/XTCE is better than or at least equal to the 7900 series, then ATi will come up the winner. The individual cards will probably be similarly matched, so it's really up to the interface, and in that respect, crossfire seems more promising, despite its abominal start. One of the end results of crossfire is that ATi customers can pick through the 'this week only' special offers and mix and match cards to use in a crossfire setup, saving some money in the process, which makes the setup seem slightly better value for money, which is what we want.
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=310 Here is an actual review of the X1900XTX which just goes to show ATI FOR LIFE YOU INGRATES ATI kills nvidia on any day of the week i mean come on they don't even make their own cards the rely on other companies like EVGA to make their card i call that slacking on their part anyone who says that this review is just BS - when comparing other review of card 7 in all i checked out just to make sure that they were legit and not just throwing fecies the all compared almost exactly to other review with similar systems so know there is no question as to the inquier's legitimacy !!!!!!!!!! http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=310
BTW Who said ATI can't beat Nvidia in Game Performace Game Test Radeon X1900XT 512MB GeForce 7800GTX 256MB FEAR 1600x1200 No AA 61FPS 48FPS FEAR 1920x1200 No AA 55FPS 41FPS FEAR 1600x1200 4xAA 45FPS 25FPS FEAR 1920x1200 4xAA 37FPS 21FPS COD2 1600x1200 No AA 39FPS 31FPS COD2 1920x1200 No AA 35FPS 28FPS COD2 1600x1200 4xAA 36FPS 25FPS COD2 1920x1200 4xAA 22FPS 29FPS BF2 1600x1200 No AA 63FPS 61FPS BF2 1920x1200 No AA 60FPS 60FPS BF2 1600x1200 4xAA 57FPS 53FPS BF2 1920x1200 4xAA 51FPS 46FPS ATI ALL THE WAY BABY
Throwing faeces? (Not fecies) Wow, that's an interesting way of putting it. As far as I see it, the X1900XTX is the card for me, but I'm sure many will agree, as the 7900 isn't out yet, and that probably won't have a paper launch.
WOW Josh!!! I'm officially impressed. Let's compare specs shall we? 7800GTX runs a core of 430Mhz (24pipes), the X1900 @ 650Mhz(16pipes), the 7800 has 256mb ram @ 1.2, and the X1900 512mb @ 1.5. Again, we can see how a true side by side comparison of "equal" cards can be. Take a look at comparable benchmark tests done by those that are not biased by one company or the other...such as the article here: http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/315/11/ You will see that the X1900 barely, and I mean BARELY tops the 7800/512 card. To me, that's about as equal as you are going to get. (they put in a comparison of dual video cards compared to single, so keep that out of the equation) Also, if you will, take a look at videocard history between the two giants. Each one of them brings out a new card, hoping to top the other...but people forget that new features are added to the cards with each major release. Such as Nvidia being the first to support SM3.0 and onboard video encoding, and now ATI coming out with AVIVO. ATI is still using it's 16 pipe core design, and adding a few more shader engines to help produce graphic environments...and again, cranking up the core clock as well. If you take a really good look at that article, you will see that even with ATI's 650 core, compared to Nvidia's 430....ATI just barely tops the charts...no landslide win, no leaving Nvidia in the dust. and the 7900 is due out next month..... It's called Outsourcing. ATI doesn't make all their cards either...or no matter who you bought a card from, they'd all have the same design. Think everything in your house was made entirely by the company you bought it from? Think again. I've been in the business for a long time, and when I traveled to different manufacturer's, there were very few who were making their products solely from within themselves. Take big screen tvs for example, open them up...like Pioneer, you'll find Pioneer speakers, a Mitsubishi circuit board, Hitachi projection lamps, the mirror comes from OCLI, and the screens and cabinets are made by other companies as well.
Actually the X1900XTX has 48 pipelines, and bests twin 512MB 7800GTXs in near every application, including notably FEAR and Doom 3, previous nvidia oases. Consequently, nVidia will have to pull out some stops for the 7900 series, and by the time that's released there will already have been a price drop for the currently price-favourable X1900 series. I can't help but notice the X1800XT Mobile chip is due out in a week or so. Only a few months ago the desktop version of that card was just a rumour... Even if nVidia's 7900 Ultra/GTX whichever they choose does best the X1900XTX i'll be using the latter since it will be cheaper, and uses AViVO, a feature i'm very interested in as you may have noticed.
was going to respond earlier but didn't have time but yes the X19000XTX has 48 pipelines wich is siginfantly more than 12 wich makes me wonder if you really know what you talkin about (we all make mistake though) and also it is not just about comparing card with the same specs you have to consider that the x1900xtx is ATI's Flagship Video card and the 7800GTX 512Mb is Nvidia's Flagship Video card they are comparing both of the companies top video cards and seeing who is actually flying the ship And plus with the x1900XTX and the EVGA7800GTX at around the same price with the x1900xtx just killing it ...(then backing up and repeating) when and if they release the 7900gtx there cards usually are priced quite steep compared to the ATI better or equivilant (kinda like AMD and Intel) so as of a month from now i am goign to be purchasing one of thoes babies (hoping newegg will hop on the learning curve and get some ATI brand in stock) but in all consideration both the nvidia and ati will kill anything in their path .. now it's just a matter of will come out the victor
and btw as of saing that the x1900xtx barely outscored the 7800gtx well first off think about this a line from the movie "The Fast and The Furious" as spoke by Vin Desiel and also if you read the full review (wich too some time with 20+ pages) you will notice that ATI on this card focused on Pixel Shaders instead of just regular stuff which games are going to start to rely on more heavly in the future so the ATI X1900XTX will still prbly come out on top in the future.
@Josh and Sam... Sorry to burst your bubble: SOURCE: http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/865/2/page_2_a_closer_look_at_the_radeon_x1900xtx/index.html Seriously guys, you are getting pixel shaders, and pixel PIPELINES confused with each other. The X1900XTX has three pixel SHADERS feeding one pixel PIPELINE each. What is 16 x 3?? You guessed it....48. The 7900 will have 32 pixel PIPELINES...the 7800 has 24. That is where ATI is trying to get ahead in the game, they're feeding each pipeline with additional shading engines. Craming 3 lanes of pixel shading traffic down one pipe...where as Nvidia is staying to one pixel shader per pipeline. Need more info? I can stay up late and post all the links you want...but if you guys aren't going to see thru the confusion, you won't learn anything. Edit: You don't get it do you...if the X1900XTX barely "wins by an inch" and has 48 pixel shaders compared to Nvidia's 24...(I think the math is twice as much?)...using your Fast and The Furious comment, is me saying that your 900HP GTO barely beat my 450HP Camaro...what, by an inch? That's NOT saying much about your 900HPs my friend, not saying much at all. Just imagine if you will, me putting in 900HPs in that same Camaro...how much are you going to lose by now with that same 900HP GTO? Experience + Knowledge = Wisdom.
Well I wouldn't exactly call an ATi coming out on top (albeit by a small margin) in a game MADE AND DESIGNED BY NVIDIA a dead heat. ATi have lagged behind nVidia traditionally in this game, so if a card from ATi can beat all nVidia opposition it says something about its performance in other areas. Pushing acceptable frames per second at 1600x1200 on maximum quality with full anti-aliasing in almost every current game is no mean feat, and let's be honest, unless you use a CRT such as I do, or have a gigantic LCD, you're limited to 1280x1024 anyway.
Yes, I do use a CRT....all the systems in the house do. What game are you specifically talking about that Nvidia made?? Nvidia and ATI have been known for supporting either Direct3D, or OpenGL in game apps, but I have yet to hear of either company producing a game??? Just because a game has a company's endorsement, doesn't mean they had a hand in writing it. The best thing, keep in mind...is for all of us to remember, that the competition between the two companies benefits us. Technology is being pushed farther and faster, more efficient. Bringing us what we want for our hard earned dollar.
no lots of games have the "nVidia - the way it's meant to be played" logo but Doom 3 was actually coprogrammed by people from nVidia which is why the performance difference between nVidia and ATi in it was so much greater than other games, until now that is. You look at older benchmarks for it, like 9800s vs FX5900s...
How long have ATI dragged behind Nvidia? quite a while. The X1900 are very good cards and do edge it over the current 7800 cards, and when used in crossfire it has 96 pipes (very impressive). But even with all the extra pipes which make a lot of difference in a high end card, it still does not leap away from the top 7800's 3DMark 06 scores show the ATI score of 5722 and 5001 at 1280x1024 and 1600x1200. The 7800 scored 5332 and 4563 at the same res. ATIs main gain was at 1600x1200 in crossfire mode scoring 7692 compared to the 7800 in SLi which only scores 5431. Another factor is the ATI cards ability for HDR which the Geforce can't do. But what happens in March when after ATIs very short spell in the lime light and Nvidia bring out the Geforce 7900 series of cards based on the G71 GPU. I think we will see the ATI take second place again, the only thing then is how long it takes them to come up with another GPU that challenges Nvidias hold on the gaming market.
The 7900 in March will be the expensive end to this current rapid-fire battle between the two graphics giants. The next updates will come in the third quarter of the year when the R600 and G80 are released, at a similar sort of time I think, this probably means X2800 and 8800 (presumably X2600, X2300, 8600, 8200 to follow), as with a 7-9 month wait after the last development there will have been a major leap forward in technology, so X1950 isn't suggestive enough, and since nVidia have gone from G71 to G80 it's quite a cert that they'll go for the 8 series. Irrespective of this though, it will be interesting to see what (if anything), nVidia creates to combat AViVo, as an extra 200mhz memory clock won't do it alone. Besides, I wouldn't mind betting that when the 7900 does appear, the X1900 will price drop (it will have been at least 6 weeks, and the X1700 would be due out soon). Some shops have already discounted the X1900XTX by up to £50 off what it appeared at (c. $90), and the current £500 Master card can only come down in price at an unearthly pace. The big difference in the next generation will be that they're Vista targets, so optimised for all the differences that Vista will allow for.
