Hi. Brand new here. I have an idea for an animated gif that i would like to use as an avatar. I would like to take a 5 sec (roughly) clip from a DVD that I own and covert that to animated gif format.

How would I go about doing this? What programs will I need (preferably freeware)?

    Thank you very much!

Oh, and I'm fairly tech savvy, so a link to a good tutorial will work for me.

Only app I can think of that can convert part of a DVD directly to an animated gif is mplayer. It is command line based and offers no optimisation params for the gif output though. Other option is to convert the section to say a raw RGB avi, then convert using any of the numerous apps out there that can convert avi-->gif.

That sounds like the best bet. What program to make the raw RGB avi clip?

[/bold]umm, yes there is. from your postings, though, it's apparent that you haven't read the easy-to-find information on how to do such things that are all over the forums.
