does anyone know why very low tapping sounds are heard in the background while playing music cds on my pc? i use soundblaster awe64 and desktop speakers. different cds, cd-rom drives and speakers have been tried and same thing happens.

I don't know for sure but it sounds like interference to me. Make sure that your connecting wire(s) and speakers don't come close to anything inadequately "shielded" from electromagnetic interference.

    Tapping sound, really?
