    Hi all

I have a problem with an avi file (episode of a TV show) - the audio's out of sync with the video. I've read through a lot of posts here but haven't been able to find one to explain my problem.

It's an episode of a TV show.

On my friend's PC, it plays fine in WMP, but in DivX player the audio is a few seconds ahead of the video. In his DivX DVD player he also gets the sync problem.

So what's that about? Is the XviD encoded file non DivX compliant? I thought XviD and DivX were essentially the same.

On my PC, I get the sync problem whether I play it in WMP, DivX player or Winamp.

So from the fact that my friend can play it OK in WMP and I can't, I suspect it's a codec issue. I have the codecs installed as at the start of the sticky codec thread in this forum. I don't know what codecs my friend uses.

Before I found out my mate could play the file in WMP without problems, I assumed it was a bad file and had looked at ways of adjusting the audio. I opened the file in VirtualDubMod and got the following message:

Is this connected to my problem does anyone know? I have other XviD avi files which give this message in VirtualDubMod which play OK on my PC.

Any help would be much appreciated. I can post GSpot info if needed.

Thanks OGS. I'd seen that thread, and will take a look at NanDub and add it to my arsenal.

However, does anyone know why this avi file would play in sync on a friends PC but out of sync on mPC and his DivX DVD player?

VirtualDubMod should handle VBR mp3's the same as NanDub. The fact is that avi was not designed to handle VBR audio. Usually this is ok, however when the person creating the file doesn't know what they are doing, there can be problems.

See if the file plays ok with mplayer or VLC. If so then you might want to try decoding the audio and re-encoding to CBR or at least remuxing.

    Aha!

I said I'd only installed the codecs in the sticky thread of this forum. I just realised I lied. Recently I installed a codec called "vodei". I uninstalled it and all my files now play without sync problems. Hurrah.

So that solves my problem. However, I still don't have a solution for this file playing with sync problems in my friends DivX DVD player.
