when a person downloads a movie in mpeg, and the movie is fine. and then converts the movie over to avi so they can use tmpeg to encode it. the movie is out of sync with the audio in the last half of the movie. what has happened and why. thanks

don't convert to avi or anything unless you're using a lossless codec. or you'll lose an awful lot of the quality.

tmpgenc will work with mpeg1/2. try checking out the tmpg common problem thread.

tmpeg works with mpg movies, not mpeg movies.

Why not give a try to WinAVI Video Converter which I am using all the time. It can convert mpeg to avi just in about 45 mimutes with stunny video and audio quality!
By the way, you can get the program from its web http://www.winavi.com/video-converter.htm
