I am trying to join a two cd subtitled movie and i am stumped as to how to go about it....what programs to use etc.

    The files are:
    Cd1.avi Cd2.avi
    Cd1.idx Cd2.idx
    Cd1.sub Cd2.sub

I want to have the subtitles on the video and burn the entire thing to be able to play on my standalone dvd player. Any help much appreciated.

If you want to play the AVI on a standalone DivX player with switchable subs, do this:

Join the AVI files with 'AVIDemux'.
Load the first file and note the exact running time.
'Append' the second file - save the combined file.
Note that you must give the full name e.g. 'combined.avi' as the program won't add the 'avi' extension.

VOB Joiner (part of VOBSub)can be used to combine the idx/sub files
Load the first and second sub/idx files and insert the time from the first step.
Save the new combined idx/sub file with the same name that you gave the avi ('combined') - the program will give you two new files, combined.idx and combined.sub.

Use AVIAddXSubs to merge the new combined sub stream with the combined AVI.
Place the new AVI, IDX and SUB files in the same folder.
A new video file is created in a few seconds.
Note that it adds .divx to the end of the new file name.
Some players won't accept this extension, so rename the file as 'combined.divx.avi' - the new file should play in a standalone DivX player with the subs controlled from the remote.

Doing it this way, means no encoding which means no loss of quality.
