Alright I have a new computer and came with it came a DVD burner. I have a video file that is .avi but im having burning using it because the program I think is converting it to dvd and is making it 9.7 GB when the blank DVD is only 4.7! Does anyone know how I can fix this problem
Hi, Once you have the files converted you can use dvd shrink (free in the software tab at the top of the page)to compress it down to fit on a 4.7g dvd. Please note that you should set the output file to 4.3g so you are not burning to close to the edge of the blank dvd. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/software.htm excellent guide to using dvd shrink and other software.
Hi, Avi files must be converted into mpegs/ dvd compliant files before you can burn them directly to dvd. When changing the format of the file it will increase in size (i.e. 9.7g as you said) which is even too big for a dual layer dvd. Try this program in this link http://www.filepedia.com/video_software/dvd-r_tools/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm to convert your avi into dvd compatible files. Then use dvd shrink to compress it down to fit on a single layer dvd as I gather from your initial post. The link in my earlier thread guide you on how to use shrink step by step. Also if you have nero you can run the avi thru nero vision express to encode the files then use nero recode to compress to fit to dvd. I suggest you use the guides in the link as a reference when you are trying to do this.
I used the divxtodvd to convert my .avi file into dvd and then it burned it. unfortuanly when I played it back after being burnt it is about 15-20 seconds out of sync? Is there someway to correct this problem? Also is there a alternative to this program that isnt a trail but free? thanks EDIT: I just tried the movie i burned in my dvd player and it only says loading and nothing happens? It worked on my dvd player in my computer right away though?
Hi, At what speed did you burn and what type of media? Keep your speed down to about 4x max 8x for burning. Never burn at max it might cause errors...also out of curiosity is the avi file in sync when you play it before converting? http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272275 also look at the link in the second post and use it to get avifixed. By the way is this avi file downloaded or from the original dvd as files off the net tend to be out of sync (sometimes) if they are not dvd rips.
It was burned at x8 speed. It was on a dvd-r media from maxwell. I just played it and it is in sync right now the file itself. The file is downloaded but seems to be in sync when I play the file itself. So in the link you provided should i still put it in synch even though before I converted it, it was fine? -------------- I just used the older version of 0.5.2.99 and converted a seperate video file. I made a video_ts folder and I went in and played the movie and it was in sync good. My question is should their by a audio folder? and what do I do now to get a properly burnt dvd.
