I've been trying to burn an avit file to dvd so I can play it on my home dvd player, not on the pc. The avi file plays fine on the PC and when I convert the file to dvd using wither neroexpress or winavi the vob files that are produced play fine on the pc. When I copy the vob files to dvd using nero the burn process completes successfully, but the dvd won't play on my home dvd player. I have tried using Tmpgenc,but it seems to produce a .wav file for audio plus a seperate video file and i'm not sure if these will work on the home dvd. Sorry for the ignorance,but i'm a little confused.
Go here http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php and follow the guide called "Nero Burning Rom: burning to DVD±R(W) guide using the "UDF/ISO" mode." As PPower was eluding...this should produce a more compatible dvd. FYI: The output from TMPGEnc can be put into TMPGEnc DVD Author to create a DVD. Adder.
when I used nero I used the create DVD, not as an iso option. I'll try using ths guide for ISO. Does winavi, TMPGEnc or divxtodvd produce the best results. TMPGEnc seems to be by far the slowest.
When I follow the guide and use the udf/iso mode I get the following error after puring the files in the VIDEO_TS folder. "you have added dvd-video content to a compilation type that will not reslut in a dvd-compliant disc. To create discs playable in standalone dvd-video players, please use the dvd-video compilation type." obviouslyu there was no such error in the guide, so I'm confused as to what I should do now. By the way i'm using nero version 6.6.0.8. I'm assuming the guide is using an older version. Will it still work even though it says it won't?
Thanks for the help...Ppower....Your suggestion of using nero express to copy is what I initially did that resulted in 2 non playable dvd's. they both work fine in the pc but not in my stand alone dvd player. Also when I try to use nerovision to add chapters and menus I get an error when trying to copy...first it says that the majority of the video is in PAL form and asks if I wont to convert to NTSC. I select yes and then to burn and then i get the an error message that says "unable to prepare data for recording: prepare session failed:transcoding of videos failed. You said you burned 2 non playable disks, playable on pc but not dvd player. So your problem isn't with converting avi to dvd it's your dvd player dosn't play Pal. Is this right
I looked a little further into this and it appears that his movie is in PAL form based on the info from avicodec: Video : 601 MB, 764 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 576*240 (2.21:1), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported From what I have read if the FPS is 25.0 then it is PAL. So I guess your right Ppower. I just assumed that this file was in NTSC format.Is there anyway to convert this to NTSC. As I said in my previous post, when I tried to use nerovisionIt said the majority was in PAL form and asked itf I wanted to convert it to NTSC. When I selected yes and then burn I got the above error message from the previous post. Is there any other way to convert PAL to NTSC. TMPGenc seems to be out of the question since I don't have 24hours to make a DVD, so between nerovision, winavi and divxtodvd , what's the best to use for this? Thanks again for your help!
Do a search here on Pal to Ntsc. The process seems very slow and you don't always get good results. If you had lots of Pal dvds it's probably better to buy a cheap dvd player that does both Pal and Ntsc
