    hey all,

recently for some reason when i open .avi files, i get horizontal bars that run through the picture. i wish i could take a snapshot in vlc for you guys, but every time i do the snapshot is of the image without any lines running through it. i've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling divx, to no avail. any advice you guys can give me (possibly totally reinstalling the avi codec itself?) will be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance

Do you have the codec Xvid? That was the problem for me.

you should get a codec pack so you will be set for a good range of formats

VLC doesn't use installed decoders so having or not having DivX or Xvid installed should make no difference.

The fact that the screenshot is different suggests a problem with the video renderer. Have you changed Directx or your video card drivers recently?
