Does anyone know how to back up a copy protected CD??
    OR
Has anyone used CloneCD and ordered it?? I used it.. now my test days have expired. The order is listed as 39 Euros.

I also have tried Blindwrite... but it has never worked correctly when I try to 'write' the copied image. I keep getting errors. Any ideas??

    Any other clone programs??

Gsus preynolds - you didn't bother to read around too much did you?

What I would suggest is that you download and trial Alcohol: http://cd-rw.org/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/alcohol120.cfm

Then do a bit a searching in this forum. There is a "Search" link at the top of this page, try searching for "Alcohol", "CloneCD" etc. and gather some background info.

I have Alcohol... It still does not work on one specific game. I am trying to backup Roller COaster Tycoon 2. Not that I even want a backup copy of it... Its just the point behind it.. that I cant get it to work...

    Key,

Nero is useless with copy protected discs. Pay attention to your posts.

Yes, I've ordered CloneCD. If you use CloneCD to read and write the disc, both with your CD-burner, you should have minimal problems. Also download ClonyXXL, the best tool for figuring out what copy protection the disc has. It also auto-configures CloneCD 4.x with the correct options to copy the CD.

I also recommend Plextor burners and readers for copying protected CDs. They are the best.

    Slicer,

Even though Plextors are great drives, they are NOT the best drives for backing up protected discs. At least LiteOn's and some others outperform the Plex, as Plextor can't reproduce all the sectors that most advanced copy protections use.

    cd-rw.org admin,

Strange. My new 48x PlexWriter has made perfect copies of all the games i own.

Update: the PX4824TA can successfully copy Cactus DataShield protected CDs with CloneCD. I tried it now and it worked.

Plextor drivers are _among_ the best in either case.

A few questions for you guys.....
I finally used Alcohol 120% to backup a game... I scanned the game using ClonyXXL and I believe it said this game had "Bad Sector" protection..so..I wasnt sure what to pick inside alcohol. I ended up using SecuRom and something else.. and they both worked. Anyone know what "bad sector" protection is and what Datatype(as in securom) I should pick?
Now.. for the real problem. I have another game that ClonyXXL said uses "
SecuRom *New* V 4.82.01.0007" protection. I picked the SecuRom New datatype in Alcohol and made a backup. But.. still.. it doesnt work. Any ideas?? Anyone??

The virtual drives are for mounting CD images (like CUE/BIN, ISO, NRG, ...) on a virtual CD-ROM so that you don't actually have to burn it on a CD-R.
