Backing up Dreamcast games GD-ROM

Is it possible to make backups of the dreamcast games which were put on the 1.2GB GDRoms? I imagine you would need special discs for these? Are typical DVD burners compatible with these?

I know its fairly easy to make backups of the CD-ROM games and I think I've seen youtube videos of games that used GD-ROM discs (Sonic adventure 2). Are these users modifying the game image to fit on a 700mb disc?

Have people been able to make backups of the GD-ROM dreamcast games? If so, how is this typically done?
