Hi, I read the whole process of overcoming new dvd protection: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260734 This was done with an older version of dvd decrypter: 3.1.0.0 I now have DVD decrypter version 3.5.4.0, maybe the process is simplier with this newer version ? Or do we still have to go through all the steps listed on the above thread ? Thanks a lot Dave
Hi dodgydave For the newer ones yes you will need something to help out Decrypter. There is a newer program that will do it all for you - RipIt4Me. All free programs and uses DVD Shrink, Decrypter and FixVTS. Here's a a step by step guide w/ links to download any programs you need.
Thanks for the tip binkie, I went through all the process and I failed when trying to burn the image file with dvddecrypter OR ImgBurn. Error: Failed to write sector 0-31 - Power Calibration Area Error Have you come across this problem before ? Dave
Power Calibration Area Error could be bad media. It seems your burner cannot write to the disc. Also your drive may need a firmware upgrade to handle the media.
As dialysis1 said could be bad media and/or needing a firmware update. So what media are you using like Sony +R 16x. Good ones to use are Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell. How about the make & model of the burner? Burn speed? You can check for a firmware updare in Decrypter or ImgBurn.. Go to tools>drive>check for firmware update. A pop will display the version you have and take you to the firmware page to see if there is a newer one. Let's rule out media and firmware 1st.
Mmmm, I used those blank DVD before and I didn't have any problem with it on my burner.... I use Fujifilm DVD-R 8x. My current version of firmware is: 1.61 the make: Matshita UJ-832D. I got it with my Sony Vaio VGN-TX3XP
Ah a laptop burner - they can be more problematic than their desktop counter parts. I have a Matshita UJ 840D - not thrilled with it. For a firmware update you'll need to see if Sony has one - they will be the ones supporting this drive. But don't be surprised if there is none. Fuji can be good - the made in Japan are made by Taiyo Yuden - one of the best. The made in Taiwan are made by Fuji themselves or Prodisc - okay. How about the burn speed? Try 4x yet?
