First off , I am not looking for a guide or anything like that. I have used different programs in the past and in time they have all let me down. I am wondering if someone can fill me in on the best tools to use, that cause the least errors, but don't take a rocket scientist to understand how to work it. I am looking for something that has updates so it can remove the newer codes as they come out. I would like the programs to be free as I am short on cash, but would consider buying to stop having all the issues with the free programs. If you can tell me which ones to use and in what order....i will try to figure out how to use them by myself. thank you in advance for your time.
DVDFab HD Decryptor is free, but can be upgraded. Free version can rip Full Movie/Main movie, along with excluding chapters. http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm Thats to rip, btw To burn, I use shrink: http://www.dvdshrink.org/ Thats really just the combo I use. I have only gotten one error, and that was from shrink saying that it was low on memory, just ran it through Voblanker and it fixed it right up. But thats the freeware solution I used to use.

You didn't want a guide but here's one anyway showing the order, etc.: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154 All free but substitute DVDFabHDDecrypter for DVDFabDecrypter. For payware progams, you can't bet AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 by Slysoft, very easy.
What's ya backing up? Size (of the disc being ripped)matters to determine how I back mine up.Some programs are cpu intensive and others aren't. Dvd-9 to Dvd-5: 1) Rip using Dvd shrink,autoburn with nero. For the newer encryptions,enable anydvd in the background. Heck of a combo for "compressed" backups. 3 programs,but after getting the settings correct,it's like a 1 program process. 2) Dvd-9 to Dvd-9, with encryption and no compression: Anydvd running in the background,rip and burn with ImgBurn.Don't get much easier than that. 3)Dvd-5 to Dvd-5,with encryption: Same as #2,but no encryption: ImgBurn only. You can still use #1,but takes longer.Also easier on your pc,no matter how fast or slow the system you have. 4) Dvd-5 to Dvd-5,no encrypion: ImgBurn only-very quick. OTF with Nero's copy disc program-very very quick. Or you could do same as #1,but it'll take longer. Anydvd is the only non-free program that I'd recommend. It's constantly being updated. If you have a nero 6 OEM disc,they work very well with "free" Dvd shrink. Shrink will handle most of the movies out there,but needs help on some of the newer encryptions from the last couple years.

To rip dvds (put them on your hard drive, this is a must if you want to "back them up onto another disc") - DVD decrypter For noobs try nero express for your divx to dvd purposes. Automated wizard with reasonable quality. From dvd to divx/xvid - AutoGK (requires dvd decrypter to decrypt the movie) From dvd to dvd - clonedvd 2 (requires dvd decrypter to decrypt the movie) last but not least IFOedit for fixing up your VOB files.
i go anydvd running in background useing other apps free ones... but it may not be the burning apps letting you down, could be a setting? could be your pc? could be your media? need more info on errors your getting...
