do they sell those in the states? I'll do a search and see. I might just try some tdk or ritek or something a little cheaper than verbatim and see how they work. Thanks bartbutt

 

For some reason the fist step of the encoding process never runs at 100% CPU; I have a C2Q @ 2.8GHz. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? I tried adjusting the x264 priority in task manager, that didn't help. I don't think my HDD is a bottleneck because I run it from a pretty fast drive and the HDD Led on my case is blinking, not solid like when I a multiplexing. I feel like this would run a lot faster if I was using full CPU; it is movie dependent but generally hovers around 60% CPU. When it goes to phase 2 of encoding though it definitely runs at 100% CPU.

Any thing I should change or are you guys having the same problem?

 

Well on my pc, and its superfast Amd Phenom and 4gb 1066 ram from start to finish of an encoded film auto burnt with ImgBurn its about....14-16 hours. I think multitasking! when its encoding the whole pc runs at a crawl if I do owt else...deduce from that what you may, in my case seems normal but ask the others as well.

 

Encoding is going to take a long time with some systems because the files sizes are tremendous compared to a standard DVD. With my Core2 duo E8400 at 3.8 GHz it took over 9 hours and sometimes as much as 14 hours depending on the length of the movie. On my Quad core 9650@3.94GHz (was fine at 4 GHz but memory stress was a concern) and Q9550@3.74 GHz (it did fine at 3.85 GHz but same concern) it takes under 5 hours for most movies.

 

That is completely normal as in the first pass, the CPU is only decoding the source and analyzing the video stream to strategize for the second pass. In the second pass phase the CPU will be decoding and encoding. Due to the extremely complex algorithms that h264 uses for compression, the CPU will be pushed to it's limit.

There seems to be an issue with the latest version of ffdshow please read the quoted info.

 

This is a great application, but sometimes I find movies hit and miss. I"m running BD Rebuilder on a a WIn7 64 bit machine, trying to encode "Office Space". the audio encodes fine, but the video fails. I'll see if downgrading back to an earlier version of FFDshow helps. I reinstalled avi synth, have v. 20.03 of BD Rebuilder and now version 610 of FFD. Thanks for such a wonderful application. I'll let U guys kjnow how it went. Thanks again.....

whats normal priority and idle priority is idle faster?

 

Although I've successfully encode with Windows 7 32 bit and I know someone who has done it with 64 bit, I'd say that hit and miss has to include the operating system too.

Idle uses fewer resources which interferes less with personal use.

What' weird, to update my encoding issues. I got 3 Blu Ray movies and "Office Space" was the only one I couldn't encode. I tried both machines, which are both c2Quads with decent hardware.
Much to my Surprise I was able to encode "The Bourne Identity" and "Transporter 3" just fine.
Both machines have worked with BR rebuilder, so either the discs of movies I couldn't get, had something weird with the encryption or maybe and issue With Any Dvd HD?. Still a great application.

 

I've found that some movies that won't work with movie only will work with full backup. Go figure. LOL

 

I keep getting a Failed to retrieve Audio, Aborted error. Anyone have any ideas on the problem?

 

Alright! That means that your new build is working! Hm! Then it also means that you have an RB-BD setup issue. Recheck, BD-RB has all the additional software it needs including right versions, but you have to choose them.

Yes, but have your configured them as per the first post?

 

I switched the MPEG2 codec to Libavcodec in ffdshow. i didnt read anything about the other 2 programs
