I can't find my rebuilds

 

I have a question? I noticed that after the last two new versions fo BD RB that the movies show as a 4.0 profile instead of a 4.1. Does this make a difference? I like making a 25BD backup and a 4GIG MKV file of all my Blurays. When I use tSMuxer & MKV merge to make the .mkv they are showing the shrinked movie as 4.0 profile. Should I keep changing it to 4.1 or will 4.0 still work?

I don't know anything about your systems layout so I can only guess that they are there somewhere or they don't exist in which case something in your reencode has failed. Have you checked your available hard disk space before and after a reencode to see if it's size changed after each reencode? IF there are no changes then you are not succeeding if there is a large change about equal to the size of the movie then it's there somewhere. Also do you have enough available hard disk space to complete the reencode?

- Changed default for "High Speed (BD-25)" setting
so that it now uses CABAC. This corrects the
blockiness experienced in fade-ins and low light
scenes.
- Modified settings so the VC-1 video is never set to
be blanked. Removed associated code.
- Added FFMS2.DLL to package. It is automatically
used for decoding when a failure is detected after
on attempt to encode. This should bypass certain
errors when DirectShow filters are misconfigured, or
when the Windows 7 registry fix wasn't completed.
- Added a hidden setting "USE_FFMS2=1". When enabled
this setting uses FFMS2.DLL as the primary method
of frame serving. Note: As of this release FFMS2
does not decode field based VC-1 sources (those marked
with a "**" in the stream list). But I'm hoping a
solution will be found for this soon.
- Removed "--fps" from the X264 command line. The
AVS now sets thet bitrate.
- Added a new hidden option "QUICK_USE_QUALITY=1" in
which, when set, BD-RB will use the currently chosen
quality level in quick extra encodes rather than the
default of "--ultrafast" mode.
- Fixed an error in which the source aspect ratio for
video resized from SD to HD was not being set
properly.
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

I have been trying to learn how to use BD RB, from what I have read it seems pretty straight fwd, but for some reason whenever I run the program to RB to a BD25 (thats all I have been trying to do), It will start ok and run for a few mins, I come back later and the pc has shut down, I have tried reinstalling, changing some settings etc, I cant figure it out, any ideas would be appreciated...

It sounds like you have an overheating problem. Perhaps you could provide us with some details on your computer such as:

Make and model computer.

Also download a copy of RealTemp and run it while running BD RB. This means that you will have to monitor it fairly often. Note that the first pass will cause less stress to your system than the second pass so if it seems to be running well in the beginning it is important to insure that you observe it during the second pass.

I haven't priced it out for a while and it depends on how many parts you an use in your current system. I'm not using an i5 or i7 and I expect that the price has come down on previous versions.

Intel Q9550 EO stepping Quad core processor over clocked to 3.7 GHz (can hit higher but that's a good stable overclock). Now here's a possible issue. Many Q9550's are C1 stepping and they can't be overclocked much beyond 3.2 GHz if even that, but they would still be a lot faster than what you have. If you can purchase one for decent price in a local store than you check the stepping version on the box. All E0 stepping processors will have this "Spec" on it "SLB8V." All C1 stepping Q9550s' will have this Spec on the box "SLAWQ" and they are to be avoided.

A Q9550 processor at Newegg is $220 but what you get will be a crap shoot.

TankGuys sell guaranteed E0 stepping processors but at an added price which means you would pay $296. The benefit is of course is that you're really buying a much higher quality processor.

bdnewbie, just a thought, I just built a new system after pricing parts for about 2 months. I would add that although I'm a software junkie I'm not much at the hardware end so this was my first build and Soph helped me with some sage advice during the project. I'm now doing BD-RB in 4-5 hours depending on whether I do entire Dvd or Movie only, my best time was 3:45 and all this is without overclocking.

Anyway I'm using the newest AMD Phenom ll 955 3.2 GHz black edition Quad processor(which you can overclock), along with:

WD 1,000G HD,

8G RAM (you need 4G just to run Win7 64bit),

Pioneer Blu-Ray reader drive/DL Dvd burner,

AMD 790X Chipset Motherboard w/8.1 Channel Audio,

ATI HD 4670(1GB)PCI-Express X16 2.0 High Definition Video Graphics Card with HDMI output,

Samsung 24" HD 1080p monitor,

and Win7 ultimate 32/64bit OS.

This all cost right at 1,000.00 including case, fans, etc. and excluding the OS which is Win 7 Release Candidate which I will have to purchase that by next July. Don't know if this helps but thought it might give you an idea of what you're looking at. I will add it's nice to be able to do 3-4 encodes in the time it used to take to do one.. BigO

 

wow, I did not know it would cost that much for such a system. I bought the phenom from craigs for $330, lol. I guess I'll just look for some cheap quadcore from craigs, I've seen a few listing for the q6600 for around 500. I have no clue on how to build computer, just afraid I might mess something up and there goes my money. Thanks both for the reply.

 

I am running this combination with a nice solid 3.6ghz overclock, and it will only cost you $220. I am getting 5-6 hour encodes, and I didn't have to drop $500-$1000 on overpriced Intel parts.
