If Everone were to pay for at least the minimum channels then the c*ble company would not go bust after all who in their right mind wants to throw Good money after bad, flogging a dead horse springs to mind here, i know a few ppl that are subscribing to sweet F all as they have a live feed going into their houses, its down to the likes of them that NTL had to sell to V*rgin m*dia, these ppl are "FREELOADERS" and want it all for nothing and will never contribute anything...LEECHERS !!!

NTL did not sell to anyone. They are still NTL mergered with Telewest. They just changed their name.

They are still 625Bn pounds in debt with 1.25Bn of that due in 2014. Going by the current financial climate and that most of that debt is owed to banks that are in trouble I can't see NTL making it to 2014. The problem is who apart from the governmemt or Sky could buy and service that debt? I doubt the government would or could and Sky are not allowed to under current monopolies law.

I pay XL TV with sports and movies, XL BB and a full phone package here. I use a digibox in the bedroom and here in my office. I'm fully aware that I'm doing so illegally and I don't pay the rental that VM would charge me for more boxes. However I pay a lot more than many here.

Sir Richard Branson, is Virgin Media’s biggest shareholder with more than 50 percent of the shares therefore he is the owner and not NTL

Same for me. The firmware update seemed fine, everything was back to normal but today it's all gone again. Very painful. Anyone got any ideas why? The firmware I used was version 2.00. Is there a newer one? Thanks.

Nonsense. He's not even on the board. He received a large share equity as part payment for his stake in Virgin Mobile which the Virgin Group sold ( along with the lease to the name Virginmedia ) to NTL at the time of the Telewest merger.

Virgin Entertainment Investment Holdings Ltd. hold 10.4% of the Virgin Media company with the other majority shareholder being the Royal Bank of Canada holding just the same. the rest of the company is owned by capital investment firms.

I don't mind people telling me when I'm wrong. But plucking nonsense out of the air and using it to make me out to be a liar is a bit harsh.

Most of us do pay for the smallest offer on virgin right?

i do... so if half of all us box users pay for small..why do all this?.. i here not many would pay for any tv.. and if they did they would move to sky..
(if this box was not out i would go to sky allso)

the boxes go down there will be more.. they cant stop it at all..

I'd be more worried about the makers of the STB'oxes withdrawing support for the earliest verions of their product than the cable companies making it very difficult for us. thats what most business people do when they want you to buy the latest versions of their products.

This is the link to the new firmware (2.00) which I used and was fine, but has now lost all channels again. Looks like it's back to manual entry. Has no-one else had the same problem with the EX5000?

Me. It summarises how most DVB newcomers seem to feel when they can't access their precious unpaid-for channels.

This is what i posted today

Just been listening to a radio programme here in Dublin, they have had the chairman of NTL/UPC saying that they are going after the suppliers of illegal boxes in Ireland and have already got one of the biggest to cooperate with them and give them a list of purchasers:

Also they said they are going to use a different system in January (higher frequency I think he said) that will make all these boxes non and void. He said they are going to crack down on suppliers and users.

    Anyone know about this?

Considering so many people keep repeating that the cable companies can't afford to do this more often it seems a very valid question.
