Ok 1. Plug in and Connect the Surfboard modem to your PC using the USB cable. Get the internet setup and working. 2. Plug the Belkin router into the power socket and check it powers on. 3. Connect the Belkin router to your PC using a network cable. 4. Check in your network connections page to see if a connection has been established with the router. 5. Connect to the router's homepage. (Check the manual for the correct address, username and password) 6. Enable the wireless access using WPA. Pick a name for the network and a passkey. 7. Attach the Wireless dongle to your brother's PC. 8. Search for wireless connections 9. Connect to the wireless connection you set up using the network passkey you chose.
what do you mean by step 4 sorry i am useless lol the power is on and wired computers number 1 is lit but the modem part is not lit
its brand new and it did it before with another as i thought it was faulty so my brother took it back and had the lot replaced its just not recognizing the modem thats all have i got the cables right the blue usb in back of pc to virgin media router yellow cable ( think its ethernet ) in back of virgin media to belkin and belkin blue cable to back of pc is that right?
Nothing at all. As I said before, connect the surfboard to the PC and the PC to the router. That's it.
but on the manual i have to have 2 wires going into the belkin one for connection to modem (internet/lan) and the other is for the connection to computers thats what it says on the 2 ports which need wires in on the belkin
You can do it that way, but it means you have no direct control over the Virgin modem initially (neither of you will get internet access until the Belkin router is up and running)
all i want to do i get my brother on the internet wireless i have tried to follow the cd but it wont find the modem
I'm doing my best to help. However, "It won't find the modem" is a useless sentence. I don't understand what you mean by that. First of all, ignore the Belkin router completely. Plug the Virgin Surtfboard modem into your PC using the NETWORK cable. Check that this works. If it doesn't (for whatever reason) you will have to plug it into your PC via USB. Assuming that it does work, make a note of its default homepage (Look in the manual for it if you don't knw what it is) Once you've established that, hook it up to the Belkin router instead, then connect your PC to the Belkin router via the network cable. Try accessing the same address. This should work, regardless of whether you've run the setup wizard. If it doesn't, then there may be a fault with the Belkin router. If this is the case, look at the Belkin router and say which lights are on, which are off and if any are flashing. Say what symbol or writing is underneath these lights.
ok il will try that when i get in but as i was saying when i run the installation cd and connect the wires as it says it says check the lights are lit which the modem light is not so therefore it cannot find the modem
ok just tried like you said with the network cabe an i cannot access the internet i have to use the usb cable what should i do now?
Connect everything as I said before. Connect the modem to your PC over USB, then connect the router to your PC with the network cable. Go to the router's home page and then we'll start from there. Note: The router's home page is an offline web page. You will not need to be connected to the internet to access it.
ok on belkin.com now virgin media connected to intenet via usb cable and belkin connected to back of pc via ethernet cable provided
So that all works? Note: Belkin.com is not the router's home page. You're looking at either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
