    Thanks Saugmon!
I checked into it and all they have online is a black one, and I need a beige one. I emailed them to see if they had any beige ones in stock or if they could get some.
    Thanks again for the info.

qsuite 2.0 and 2.1 are free utilities you can use with most benq drives. The full use of this program is only on certain models like the 1640/1650/and 1655.Some earlier models like the 1620 need the up to date firmware, but still can't get the full use of this program.

    It's got several different programs:

Booktyping: Sets your plus format media: R/RW/R DL to dvd-rom. Also known as bit-setting. Helps with stand alone compatability.Booktyping with a benq will give you the highest stand alone compatability on stand alone players and other dvd drives.

Q-Scan: Test out your blank discs and see if that drive will handle them. Takes about 2-3 mins at whatever speed you select, then you can up that speed to see if it'll handle them, and up it some more.

Overspeed: Benqs are notorious for overburning 8x media to 12x and even 16x. Enabling overspeed will allow your benq to burn 8x media at it's rated speed of 8x. No more overburning. Some programs may limit you to burn at a very slow speeds and max speed-not allowing you 4x or 8x as a choice-usually single drive pcs.

Solidburn: This program learns how to properly burn the media after several burns.

WOPC: Walking optimal power control- Adjusts the laser to the condition of the blank disc

Info: Tells you the MID code of your blank media

    Test write: Self explanatory

Usually the solidburn/overspeed/and booktyping is all I worry about.

Here's a link for that utility:

    I use 2.0

Some bugs were in the 2.1 version, but other members having success with it. I'm not sure the differences between the 2.

    Hi,
There's no difference between QSuite 2 & 2.1. In terms of facilities & the way it functions. The differences are in the way it relates to the drive & it's f/w. Some folks do find that 2 is more compatable with their setup. Which is ironic since 2.1 was introduced to cure some of the problems being experienced by users & version 2.But that's what makes it interesting.

I have been highly recommended to a 1655.I appreciate the program info as it looks very valuable.I can not believe how inexpensive this unit is thru Newegg...in fact it's kind of scary!I'm used to buying stuff at Walmart,Sams and CompUSA.

Personally,I wouldn't even look at a burner at wal-mart/staple's/or any other local store. Prices too high, and sometimes you don't even know who actually built the drive-example:Staple's I/O Magic drives.

Newegg.com is where I bought 2 of my last 3 benqs. The latest being the 1650 had to be ordered from canada at that time.A week later,newegg.com got them in stock for $20 cheaper, UGGH!

Don't let the price fool you. If you don't get a hold of a bad drive, which can happen from any manufacturer, that benq will perform phenomenally.

    Hi folks,

I read this entire thread and no-one has answered the Original Question...

Q: Which is a Better drive? BenQ 1650 or the 1655? Assuming I don't really care for the "Lightscribe" option of BenQ1655.
For Example ... is 1650 quieter than 1655? Or does 1650 operate better and faster? Or since it has one less laser, so less congested casing and may be operates better? ... and so forth!

    Thanks!
    G!

My 1655 is quiet and fast, so there is no advantage or disadvantage in having either one...they are essentially the same drive.

Correction. The Benq 1650 is now @28.99. I just oredered one, but I may cancel and get the 1655 unless it is not worth it.

The only difference in between the 1650 and the 1655 in the lightscribe capabilities with the 1655. If you aren't interested in paying extra for lightscribe discs and fancy labels go for the 1650 for a few dollars less.

The 1650 is an awesome burner, especially for that kind of donero!!! I'd rate it well above the majority of those $80 donero and higher drives.

    Best bang for the buck!!!!

But if lightscribing is what you desire, the 1655 is an awesome drive. Either way,you can't go wrong.
