Saugmon, all three of my 1655's are the I/O Magic that i got on sale at Staples. When flashed with the Ben-Q firmware all the tabs will show up in Q-suite.

paiger651: Anything special to do or just go ahead and download to the actual Benq 1655 at benq's main site?

My buddy's pc is not reliable enough to try a fw update,so I told him to try it until he runs into problems.

I was curious because I got a couple other members who have I/O magic 16x drives which are the Retail Benq 1620 with the G7H9 fw and having issues with their drive not recognizing media.

It's been a boring week. Nothing to backup! UGGH!

Saugmon, you will have to use the BQFlasher found at cdfreaks the first time to flash it to the genuine Ben-Q firmware. If you have any questions Zebadee would be the person who could answer them he seems to be the Ben-Q guru over there.

EDIT: Saugmon im not sure about the 1620 rebages but for the 1655 IOMagic's I used the BQFlasher found at cdfreaks.

Thanx zebadee.I did join yesterday. I love their bargain basement!

Another reason I am curious, Staple's have those same I/O Magic 16x's and rumor has it they may be Benq 1670's? Not sure if rebadged or genuine, but for $29,may be worth the risk?

Those I/O's are like the lottery, you may hit paydirt,or you may get a pile of crap?

The I/O Magic I got this week from Staples is indeed a 1670.

very good results with new BCHC firmware on the Benq 1650 (yes, i admit the jitter and PIE is a bit high, but the playback was FLAWLESS when i watched in on my plasma~ :) )

just wanted to keep this thread my buddy catfreak started alive and kickin' :)

my settings are the same as before, burned @8x (max) WOPC enabled, Overspeed off, Solidburn ON, on my favorite 8x dvd+R Taiyo Yuden YUDEN000T02~ :) booktyped naturally~

as i mentioned before, i have confidence in this new firmware, DESPITE all the issues and negative responses people have been having using it~ :p ON MY SYSTEM, BCHC is just as good as BCFC i was using before and i think it will remain consistent FOR ME~ after the first few 95/97 scores, CONSISTENT 99 quality scores for me last dozen burns or so...

    docTY~

Here's a scan of the very first burn with my new 1655. I'm not up to speed on the significance of the different numbers. I'm guessing that PI errors are a fact of life, PI Failures aren't good but aren't the end of the world and that PO Failures are a very bad thing. Is this correct?

    Burn speed was 8X.

That looks pretty darn good neph. I avg about 95-97 on my ty-g02/Yuden000-T02 and MCC-004.

    You try the lightscribing yet?

Thanks, I thought the scan looked pretty decent compared to many others. I'm messing with the LightScribe label maker right now. I bought a ten pack of LS CD's to fart around with and get the hang of making the labels :)

It's a nice option, but getting 100 Ty-G02 shiny inkjet printables-They blow my lightscribe covers away.

My dad's HP640c seems to have a better picture quality than my HP640c.I'm very disappointed with mine.Too many crc errors, very low compatability, and even coastered out a couple Maxell-002-00 full hub printables.I don't do any more backups on that drive, strictly benq burning only.

For DVDs I'm sticking to my TY's and black sharpie although I can see getting more LS CD's for the compiliations I burn to carry in my truck. I just made a test label and it looks great. Now I can have a listing of all the songs and artists on the disc that fits and is actually readable :)

    @neph

even to this day, i STILL adhere to your statement down to the T :)

where is that truckload of TYs i was promised last year? j/k~ :p (btw, sold my NSX awhile back AND sold my Mercedes too) LOL

sorry to be slightly off topic, i'll get back to burning some more TYs and getting my 99 scores consistently, btw, your scan on your first burn Neph is very good, your PI Errors are MUCH lower than mine, it's the PI Failures i tend to worry about on my scans, that's just me~ :)

    docTY~

I haven't seen any Dual Layer scans. Here's my first using Verbatim +2.4x/burned at that 2.4x using Dvd decrypter's Mode ISO read and IMGBurn for the burning. Nothing spectacular compared to single layer scans:

DL is still a relatively immature technology so I imagine a scan like that isn't too out of sorts.

I just got rid of Nero6.0.0.21b off my backup Athlon 3000+ pc and replaced it with OEM Nero6.6.0.14. I have full use of the nero speed test's disc quality scan with this version.

Here's a scan of +16x MCC-004 verbatim, burned at 12x on my original Benq-1620 which was bought under the brand name of I/O Magic-but not a rebadge:

This drive has burned over 3500+ backups-not too shabby. And just like my Benq 1640, The 12x burning produces a heck of a lot less errors than 4x burning using MCC-004 media. Those MCC-004 love to be burned fast!
