    you have norton internet security installed right

    1. Download AVG
    2. Disable Internet
    3. Disable Norton Anti-virus (you have to do this because avg and norton anti-virus could conflict with each other so disable this DONT TURN IT BACK ON! unless your avg anti-virus is off)
    4. Install AVG Free
    5. Restart Comp
    6. Done!

    @iampolly,

    Plextor is correct about the software conflicts, you don't want that, but this is a thread discussing AV's, if you need help w/ your malware problems start a thread in windows spyware & virus forum, good luck.

    ok i have done that and performed a full system scan with AVG
    and AVg removed the virus to the virus vault. i then emptied the virus vault and things were ok.

    but then in my task bar i still get virus alerts from windows
    and pop ups

    what should i do?????

    iampolly, read the forum rules above about posting & hijacking threads. start a new thread about your problem because hijacking threads can & will get you banned.

    try installing avast! and downloading a spyware program like Defender... you may have spyware which is causing problems... and AVG cannot detect spyware at all...

    hehehe, i guess i'm back again. just one question: once i've done a full system virus scan with avg free, and if it has detected some virus, will it automatically delete it, or will it put it into this vault thingie? coz everytime i do a scan, there's always one trojan virus (whatever it was called) and i can't seem to delete it! and btw, how do you delete stuff in the vault? thanks in advance! (sorry if it was such a noob question)

    Go into virus vault, and empty it.
