Best Buring Software

I have only recently started downloading films from the internet and I was told in order for me convert them from my computer to play on most muilti-region DVD players they needed to be converted to MPEG-2. I've tried using Videowave and this took SEVEN hours to do. Does anyone know of a software which can do this in a quicker time
