I recently purchased the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 350. I love the card.

I don't know if it is the best one out there, but it does the trick for me.

I captured some older VHS tapes from my 6 year old JVC camcorder. The capture looks the same as what the VHS-C tapes look like when played through the VCR to the television. Some of the old ones are not real good, but the ones from 2 or 3 years ago are good.

The Hauppauge card only captures in MPEG2, but there are many levels of MPEG2 in which you can capture. Unfortunately, it will not capture in AVI mode, but for the VHS tapes, I don't think it makes a difference, anyway.

    Hi GrandpaBW,

Not sure whether you know but I had a Dazzle 150 card that I took book, partly becuase I was limited that none of the codecs would work with it.

Also when I watched my recorded clip on screen it was quite pixelated

Is that so with PVR 350 model? I have a Hauppauge PVR (no numbers behind it) and it has capture AVI option even in WinTV2000 program (bad quality), but I always capture AVI by VirtualDub with lossless codec (excellent quality).

Stardust, none of the Hauppaugge cards, now,(that I know of) will capture in AVI.
