allmanbro i like Intervideo DVDCopy3 with anydvd running in the background ,its VERY easy to use and the quality is outstanding. give it a shot both have a free trial. my second choice would be DVDClone2 with anydvd which is a package deal. good luck and happy burning
Hi brobear. Good to see ya. I think I got matt to where he can at least see the quality of DVDCopy3 but was a little puzzled on why Copy3 didn't see his ext. drive as a target. I gather that the other apps were seeing it. We also need to help him get his RB/CCE up n runnin.
allmanbro The only one you mentioned that is top notch is AnyDVD (a ripper). Slysoft's CloneDVD2 is a decent transcoding app, http://www.slysoft.com , you'll find AnyDVD here as well. Check out http://www.intervideo.com for DVDCopy3 and http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/ for RB with the Rockas installer. You'll need to use CCE SP if you're doing a trial, the Basic trial times out and isn't functional with RB. http://www.visiblelight.com/mall/productview.aspx?cat=201&pid=9 is where you can find a download for CCE SP trial. It has a logo on the output and has a trial period. If you like it, purchase the CCE basic for about $60. DVD Decrypter is still a good ripper, just no longer supported. As it's free, use it as long as its functional.
Mort All he needs to get RB up and running is to use the Rockas installer. I gave the link for it. There is also a forum there as well as help threads here at AD. aabbccdd DVDClone2 is not the same as CloneDVD2 by Slysoft. I gave the Slysoft link above where CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD can be loaded. With the free trials, one should at least check these out. Though I prefer the Copy3. I guess I allowed my bias to show. My main favorite is RB (which is a true encoder setup when using CCE).
I stand corrected brobear thanks for catching that sorry man ,and as usally all your info. is correct , glad to see you back posting again too where the heck you been
I'm using an averatec 5400 series laptop w/ amd 2800, xp home, 784mb ram, 40g hd. I tried the method of using the external drive to rip from using dvdcopy3 and works! Now if i can get the damn program to burn to my last ty. Sorry didn't know there was a difference from a mod and an addict I just know you guys as well as the senior members know waaaaaay more than I do. I guess each one has an area of specialty. Oops got off topic hope the above info helped in determining its not a communication factor. Think I will invest in dvdcopy3 since they offer money back if they cannot get it to work. Thanks for the rb/ cce link will give that a go. As I stated before I have the basics now I'm trying to fine tune not only for myself so I can assist other members as well. Burner is external nu-tech model N82E16827154021 EDW-042 is the firm ware I think.
matt72 And what is the brand and model of the external drive? Just curious. aabbccdd No problem, and you're not alone. I've noticed others besides you who have said DVDClone instead of CloneDVD. As you know there are programs by both names and the newbies are easily confused. They have so much to learn and remember from the start. You said both with AnyDVD, so any thinking person should realize you intended the Slysoft apps. My intent was to help the newbies and not as a correction for you. You've been around long enough to know your way around. Where I've been... Taking care of my outside toys and activities. It's been raining, so I spent the evening catching up on the forum a bit. With fair weather and the summer season, I'll probably be off the forum for a bit. Motorcycles, boats, the inevitable maintenance, golf, travelling and a bit of yard work are a few things to keep me busy.
Matt72 Cache: 2M CD-R: 24X CD-ROM: 24X CD-RW: 10X DVD+R: 4X DVD+RW: 2.4X DVD-R: 4X DVD-ROM: 8X DVD-RW: 2X Type: Slim DVD Burner Model #: EDW-042 That tells us the max burn speed on DVDs is 4X, so you don't have to worry about controlling the burn speeds. That's only a problem with some of the faster drives. Don't understand why Copy3 will read the drive and not write to it. Maybe someone else can help or InterVideo's customer support. Let us know what happens. If Nu-Tech has customer support, maybe they can shed some light on the situation. After all, it's their drive that isn't functioning properly with a popular retail app. N82E16827154021 is an item number.
@ brobear Would you suggest the platinum or gold edition of dvdcopy3. Last platinum edition I bought *cough xcopy cough* is collecting dust now. I don't mind the 40 dollar difference just want to be sure I'm getting my moneys worth.
Hey allmanbro Try using DVD Decrypter & DVD Shrink together both free on AD. But if you want better quality try using DVD Rebuilder w/ CCE Basic. Haven't used Rebuilder & Basic ,too difficult to use and set up for me. I would recommend Intervideo DVD Copy 3 Platnium. I was lucky to get it only for $20 @ Fry's $50 out the door w/ a $30 rebate. This software seems to work great. It works w/ either Region Free+CSS. DVDIdle pro(same company as Region Free), or AnyDVD. There's someone on Ebay right now selling a bunch of copies of Region Free+CSS for only $10. DVD Clone also works good w/AnyDVD I think there $50 or $ 60 if you buy them together. All the apps I've mentioned are the only ones I've used so far.
Matt72 iam just using the Gold package not unless you want to rip from your harddrive you wont need the Platinum ,heres a link click comparison to see the differnts between the two . And what i did was download the free trial an in a couple days i got a email to buy it for 34.95 and the Platinum was only 10 bucks more so give it a shot heres the link http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/InterVideoDVDCopy_Profile.jsp
The only real advantage I can see that platinum has over gold is the ability to make 1:1 backups on DL media. This can be done with dvd decrypter and it's free.
I'd suggest you give the DVD RB/CCE combo a go before spending your money. You might just be surprised at how well it does.
thanks I installed rb and cce pro and will give it a go. After reading your opinions I think i will stick with clonedvd2/ anydvd. Haven't tried to backup a full movie but will take a shot at it today.
hi avi2dvd / cce can compress a dvd to dvdr on main movie only too... just a thought as its very easy to use and does batch encodeing and avi to dvd to... it has 4 built in rncoders aswell as being able to use cce but version 267 on cce at present...
Matt72 The platinum Copy3 is what I own. The trial is Platinum. Read the description and you can see the difference between the 2 versions. Just ask yourself if you might like some of the extras now or later. The trial is no cost, so there's no reason not to try it. Guess some people neglected to pay attention to my previous post on RB. With the Rockas installer, anyone should be able to install RB. If you can load Shrink or Decrypter, you can now install RB. Links were provided. BTW, if you like the RB, you'll need to make a donation to get the Pro version. I have that one. With a $15 donation and about $60 for the CCE Basic, you end up with a true encoder that does excellent work. The only drawback is it's a bit slower than Shrink using the quality settings. I often use batch settings and let the app do encoding overnight.
@brobear I installed dvdrb pro and cce pro (a gift in exchange for loading photoshop 7 & 8 onto a friends pc). Just the 1st time I tried to use it got stuck but that was before I saw there was a guide on here. I was caught as to whether to get the platinum or nero ultra. Was looking for something where I could spend on 1 application to do it all but hey I just bought another laptop so will experiment with trials of both. Oh and i did use rockas installer and now to try to see the results. Will report back good, bad or perhaps for another 'stupid' question.
I've heard few complaints other than speed where RB/CCE is concerned. Most problems have been from usage errors. Not to say there haven't been an occasional software or hardware conflict. After all, RB is still beta. I thought you were talking about Copy3 Platinum. With Nero I suggest the full package Ultra. I hate wanting to use part of an app only to find out that part isn't functional. Recode is an important part of the suite if you're going to be doing a lot of DVD backups. If you check around, you should be able to find a better price than the one quoted at the Ahead site.
