i have hours of vhs tape that i would like to convert to dvds. i want the highest quality possible as some of these were originally 8mm from the forties. i am overwhelmed by the vast amount of information available and hoping that someone will share their wisdom with me.

    thank you

use a capture card then use tmpgenc to to convert the files to a dvd mpg file then use dvd2avi to get d2v and ac3 files and take them into scenarist then ifoedit to correct the ifos

if u have a capture card connect your video or camera to that and there are programs out there that will let you get the film onto your hdd

thanks for your patience. with my video card [ati8500] it appears that i can capture video in avi or mpeg2 amongst others. once i have captured, do i go to one of the programs like showbiz and then my-dvd to get it burned, and if so, are there setting controls to maximize quality?

    again, thanks
    john
