Hi all, as I have lost more or less all my channels I have been trying to update the software on the box in the hope that this will sort it but I keep getting a download error when trying to run the bin file. I am using a usb connection from the pc to a 9 pin connection on the box. I have a t*w cbl connection. I was wondering what would happen if I reset the factory dflts? Any advice I would be grateful for. thanks

What version of firmware do you have on the box. Press menu, then system info and this will tell you.

Please check the link at the end of my post marked Starview Info Dobby2oon, then click clones. You need to see if you have a clone or a genuine Starview before you even attempt to flash it.

    Hi Sc0user
the links that you supplied were helpful. i managed to confirm that the box was genuine and the 2nd link allowed me to pick up some more channels, mainly movies which is a BIG improvement. i still can't get any s*y or s*tanta sports channels. looking at how things have progressed thus far makes me wonder if the software and bin file are whats needed but as i still have lost a lot of channels i'd still like to try downloading the bin file.
any views on this, do you think it may help.
thanks again for the help so far :)

Try a manual scan and see if it picks up more stations

There is work going on at the moment on the VM network. I would still advise you to upgrade your firmware to Version 4 as you said you have a genuine box.

OK all the firmware/software you need to upgrade the Starview is in the link at the end of my post, marked Eamos FTA Library.

    1. Download the Starview PDF Guide, found in Starview Documentation Folder. This will show you how to flash your Starview.
    2. Download GTromloader, found in Starview Software Folder.
    3. Download Version 4 firmware, (only for genuine box), found in Starview Firmware folder.

You will need a null modem cable DB9F to DB9F similar to this one:

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=L71BT&DOY=2m6

This only for reference and can be purchased much cheaper on fleabay.
Once you have followed the guide and flashed your Starview, if you are still missing channels come back and we will sort it out then.

As per my previous post and as you have said you have a genuine box then Version 4, (entitled STARVIEW_H20070607_400eE_api.bin in the firmware folder), is the one for you. Any problems just drop back.

still getting the download bin file error. looks like it's down to my connection from pc to box. i have a 9 pin connection to the port on the box but the connection to the pc is USB. i think if i get a 9 pin port connection on both then this might do the trick. i'll get this then try it again. thanks for your time with this. i'll let you know how it goes :)

You will need a USB to serial port adapter, you then use this in conjunction with the null modem cable you have.

    USB Adapter info

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx...t10&doy=search&MenuName=USB to Serial Adaptor

This is only for reference purposes and can be purchased much cheaper on fleabay.
