BIOS PASSWORD ???????

    I have a SONY VAIO PCG-GRV550 P4 XP laptop .
    I TRIED TO REINSTALL WINDOWS XP PRO AND IT STARTED ASKING FOR THE BIOS PASSWORD. I DON'T HAVE A PASSWORD. HOW CAN I FIX THIS. PLEASE HELP

    I d'ont know if this will work on a laptop but it does work occasionally on a tower system.
    Remove the battery from the motherboard and swop over the jumpers (you will need the motherboard manual for this to find out which ones)for about 3 seconds and swop them back.
    This should reset the bios to its default settings, if you hav'nt got the manual try the m.board manafacturers website.

    P.S after you've swapped the jumpers back put the battery back in.
