Black Level Setting?

    I recently purchased a Yamaha DVD-S550. The manual that came with the player was half English and half French. One topic that was included in the French section was Black Level. I don't read French so I was wondering if anybody could explain to me what the Black Level setting is all about. I managed to find the manual on Yamaha's website but it appears to be a European version with no mention of Black Level. I have the player connected to an analog television if that makes any difference.
    Thanks.
    Rick

    Hi Rick, Congratulations on buying the Yamaha 550,great choice. I bought one as well and love it.
    This is a quote from the manual;

    Selecting the Black Level (USA model only)

    If you set the TV type to NTSC, set Black Level to ON. This will improve the colour contrast during playback. The black level setting has no effect if the TV type is set to PAL
