    Ok. I ran vundofix.exe in safe mode... it came back saying "No infected files found".

    I still need to delete one of my anti virus programs. Norton or AVG. Any suggestions which is better. Actually I think my Norton is out of date.

    I know this topic is really long. I just want to say I appreciate all of your help. It is a huge relief to know where to start on this junk.

    I did press the 'update now' buton and was told 'you already have the latest Java(TM) platform on this system'. Anything wrong you've seen?

    Hi RenneRae. You're clean =)

    If your norton is outdated (you don't have a license to it anymore) it is a good idea to remove it.

    You should update your Java so you don't get the same infection in the future: (Vundo spreads through a vulnerability in older java versions)

    1. Click Start-> Control panel and double-click Java icon (coffee cup)
    2. Move to Update tab and update Java by clicking "Update Now". After that do a restart.
    3. If you can't make automatic update, get new version manually from here -> http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
    4. After restart go back to your Java settings thru control panel (Start->control panel->java).
    5. Select Temporary Internet Files and click Delete Files.
    6. Make sure that all these three are checked:

    Downloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other files

    7. Click ok in Delete Temporary Internet Files window (Attention: This removes all loaded applications and applets from cache)
    8. Click ok to close Java window.

    You should update your Java: (Vundo spreads through a vulnerability in older java versions)

    1. Click Start-> Control panel and double-click Java icon (coffee cup)
    2. Move to Update tab and update Java by clicking "Update Now". After that do a restart.
    3. If you can't make automatic update, get new version manually from here -> http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
    4. After restart go back to your Java settings thru control panel (Start->control panel->java).
    5. Select Temporary Internet Files and click Delete Files.
    6. Make sure that all these three are checked:

    Downloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other files

    7. Click ok in Delete Temporary Internet Files window (Attention: This removes all loaded applications and applets from cache)
    8. Click ok to close Java window.

    Hello! I've put up with the infamous SysProtect/Beagle/Blackworm virus for a long time! Today, Norton finally discovered Winfixer and fixed that. However, I think I need help with the SysProtect thing. This whole forum is fascinating to me - I'm not a big tech person so I need someone to walk me through this (especially after reading warnings about my OS crippling if I don't know what I'm doing). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Help please! I am dealing with a possible Vundo infection and pop-ups for SysProtect and WinAntiVirusPro. When I click on links, it takes me to another page and there's always something loading in the background. I've downloaded HT and this is my log.     Ok, you got some infections on your computer....

    Cleaning instructions:

    Move HijackThis into its own folder C:\HJT

    Download and install Ewido anti-malware -> http://www.ewido.net/en/download
    Update it, but do NOT run a scan yet. We'll use it later.

    Download VundoFix.exe to your desktop -> http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4

    * Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    * Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
    * You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
    * When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
    * Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    * You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    * Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    * When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
    * Turn your computer back on

    Run HijackThis. Press Do a system scan only, then close all other windows, checkmark the following entries and press Fix checked

    Save the document to your desktop as Removal.bat and filetype: All Files
    Go to your desktop and run the file Removal.bat and answer yes to any questions.

    Restart your computer to the safemode -> http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

    Use the Windows "search" function
    -> Start
    -> Search
    -> All files and folders
    -> More advanced options

    Checkmark these options:
    - "Search system folders"
    - "Search hidden files and folders"
    - "Search subfolders"

    ->Search for this and delete if found: ShowWnd.exe

    Scan and clean your computer with Ewido and save the report.

    Clean the Recycle bin.

    Restart your computer normally.

    Post the following logs to here:
    -> a fresh HijackThis log
    -> Ewido's log
    -> contents of C:\vundofix.txt

    Ok still something left, we'll have to use a stronger tool....

    1. Download Avenger -> http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger.zip and unzip it to desktop
    2. Copy all text in quote box below to Notepad (starting from
    Files to delete:)

    Notice: This script is for this user. If you aren't that user, DON'T follow these instructions, because they might harm your system

    3. Now, open The Avenger
    ->"Below Script file to execute" select "Input Script Manually".
    ->Now click magnifying glass which opens a new window "View/edit script".
    -> Paste the text you earlier copied to Notepad here
    -> Click Done.
    -> Now click green light in order to start script.
    -> Click "Yes" .

    4.Avenger will do the following
    -> Reboot your computer.
    -> While booting, it will open a dos prompt, it's normal
    -> After reboot it will create a logfile which should open . This log is in C:\avenger.txt
    -> Avenger has created a backup here -> C:\avenger\backup.zip.

    5. Make your hidden files visible -> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html
    6. Restart your computer to the safemode -> http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

    7. Delete these folders (if found):
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\WeatherBug
    C:\Program Files\[/b]MyWebSearch[/b]

    8. Restart your computer normally and make the hidden files hidden again.

    9. Copy/paste contents of avenger.txt along with a fresh HjT-log.

    Ok good, you're clean now.

    You should update your Java so you don't get infected in the future : (Vundo spreads through a vulnerability in older java versions)

    1. Click Start-> Control panel and double-click Java icon (coffee cup)
    2. Move to Update tab and update Java by clicking "Update Now". After that do a restart.
    3. If you can't make automatic update, get new version manually from here -> http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
    4. After restart go back to your Java settings thru control panel (Start->control panel->java).
    5. Select Temporary Internet Files and click Delete Files.
    6. Make sure that all these three are checked:

    Downloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other files

    7. Click ok in Delete Temporary Internet Files window (Attention: This removes all loaded applications and applets from cache)
    8. Click ok to close Java window.
    9. Remove old Java through Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs if still found, propably named as:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

    Now that you're clean, here are some tips how to stay clean.

    You don't have a firewall or an antivirus on your computer. Download and install one firewall and one antivirus.

    If you used windows firewall, disable it after installing new firewall.

    Ok, you got some infections on your computer....

    Cleaning instructions:

    Download and install Ewido Anti-Spyware 4.0 -> http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

    -> Open Ewido Anti-Spyware
    -> Click the Update icon at the top of the window
    -> Click the Start update button
    -> Wait for the update to download and install
    -> Quit the program, we'll use this later.

    Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop -> http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1
    Do NOT run yet.

    Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Remove MyWebSearch, MySearch, SmileyDistrict or similars if found
    Download VundoFix.exe to your desktop -> http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4

    * Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    * Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
    * You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
    * When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
    * Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    * You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    * Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    * When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
    * Turn your computer back on

    Run HijackThis. Press Do a system scan only, then close all other windows, checkmark the following entries and press Fix checked

    Run ATF Cleaner -> Check select all -> Press Empty selected

    -> Open Ewido Anti-Spyware
    -> Click the Scanner icon at the top of the window
    -> Click the Settings tab then select Recommended Options and choose Quarantine
    -> Click the Scan tab
    -> Select Complete System Scan. The scanning begins.

    -> When the scan has completed:
    -> If infections were found you'll be prompted about what to do.
    -> Please make sure that the Set all elements to is set to Quarantine (in downleft corner of the window)
    -> Then press Apply all actions and answer yes to all if it asks about something
    -> Click on the Save Scan Report button and save the scan to your Desktop.
    -> Copy and paste the scan results into your next post

    Restart your computer normally.

    Post the following logs to here:
    -> a fresh HijackThis log
    -> Ewido's log
    -> contents of C:\vundofix.txt
