Again that artical is assumming that MPEG-2 is being used at very high bitrates. If MPEG-4 compatible codes are being used then the time doubles! HD-DVD has a max capacity of 30GB using double layer media with prototypes as large as 45GB using triple layer media. Blu-Ray has a max capacity of 50GB using double layer media with prototypes as large as 200GB using eight layer media. Since a movie is typically 2 hours (and no longer than 3) more capacity isn't a requirement even with alot of extra features which right now are mostly in Standard def. What happend when Movie makers wanted to add more special features When the DVD was full? Add more DVDs. Have you ever heard of a box set? I know I have. I can tell you now that HD-DVD box sets will cost alot less than multi-layer Blu-ray discs. Ced
Definitely! I hope they eventually put entire seasons of TV shows on one Blue-ray disc, and maybe entire collections of movies, like Star Wars. Imagine the possibilities with 200 GB of space...
Your missing my point. But everyone is intitled to there own opinions. Just know that multi-layer blu-ray discs are many years away from mass production and that non of the current players will be compatible with them. Ced
Maybe not. What if they put kind of a low cost, chinky player in it? Did anyone notice that you can burn Blu-Ray discs with Nero? They are getting ready really early for us to start copying Blu-ray discs lol.
Well, they are on the verge of releasing some Blue-ray burners, Lite-On, Samsung and Pioneer are all making them and at least Lite-On has started producing them and they will roll out next month. Nero is just keeping up with the technology so when people buy a Blue-ray burner next month (you know who you are), they will have some software that supports it. It's just catering to all the customers out there, just smart.
i wonder when the burners come out if i could take my regular dvds, say my smallville season box sets and put them on one or 2 disc?
Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD may become moot if the development of HVD (Holographic Versatile Disc) is succesful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_Versatile_Disc Imagine 3.9 TB (terabytes) on a single disc.
I feel Blu-ray will win because they can get 50Gb right now. They can get the best quality in the 50GB, well maybe 20Gb but think about the quality. The games can be huge. Think Grand Theft Auto America, 50 states and you go anywhere.
