Right ....here we go *takes a breath*.. I have: On my PC Windows XP Pro Trendnet 435 BRM Router - along with Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC. ZoneAlarm4 Nod32 Antivirus BT Voyager 100 Modem. Installed my ethernet connection to X-Box Windows XP Pro Zonealarm 4 Nod32 Antivirus Wireless Trendnet TEW-228 PCI Card --------------------------------------------- [bold]I just want the PCS to see shared files not for internet[bold] I have installed software in both PCS When all is connected and switched PC's on the both computers recognise the cards.. 2nd PC has excellent signal so it says... I just cant get the PC's to see one another..
first since you have xp pro make sure simple file sharing is OFF in win explr , click tools, folder ops, view, scroll dwn. turn OFF ALL FIREWALLS, even xp's built in make sure both PC's are in the same workgroup make sure both you cables are cat5 streight through, not crossover does your router have DHCP ? USE IT MAKE SURE BOTH PC's are configed to automatically get IP addresses and DNS ip. share a folder on both PC's, since you are using peer to peer you will need to have each others log on acount on both PC's. when you plug in a cable to the router an LED on the router should go on when removed it should go out, this shows you have a signal going and coming back. open a command prompt and check to see if you are getting an ip address from the router.
In services.msc What settings do I need Auto/Manual or Disabled for networking. As I configured some for tweaks. My computer has cable from Router to PC, other machine is wireless. On my Voyager modem I only have connections for DSL (phone line) and connection to my PC (USB)
I can get to access and configure both my pcs cards for the router but not the router itself ???????????
What ? you should have a phone line to the modem a cat5 cable going to the router ( you can put all your settings , user id / password for ppoe dsl ) then cat5 to one w/s and a wireless link to the other, no usb from the modem to the pc. the router is wireless. ?
