sorry Mr. Pink, i did not get back to you in time, my phone lines were down yesterday and my dsl was not working. but it looks like you got the help from fellow members already. good luck.
@sytyguy Great review on this GSA 4163B. I guess I won't be in too great a hurry to replace it. Thank you agian. I am bookmarking cdfreaks.
No probs, gear, I appreciate the effort. I wound up copying all the LOTR trilogy last night, the final movie was the one that I used the Lite-On program with--and it worked. I ripped the movie onto the harddrive then opened the book type program, set it, left decryptor alone, and burned. Afterwards, checking the disc via Infopro and DVDIdentifier, they all said the same thing: dvd-rom. Gracias to all, especially Mort. One thing I noticed though, is that after I downloaded that program, i only received the .exe file. In other words, nothing else was extracted from that download. That .exe file has to be opened (and in turn, "Run") each time I open/use it. Whereas with most executable files, after you run that initial program, the program would find itself in C:\program files or wherever you put it. This does not. Has any experienced this (or know what i'm talking about? lol) or am i hitting jackpot on everything I've run into yesterday? Thanks again for the help!
glad you got it working Mr. Pink, and mort is a smart guy, he was one of the ones who explained booktyping to me and firmware updates.... but good luck with your process, and dont hesitate to ask questions.
Hi Mr_Pink, You,re welcome and don't worry about the exe file having to be run each time it is opened. Once you select dvd+r to be booktyped dvd-rom it is stored in the eeprom or memory of your drive and will remaim that way unless you set it back. Glad to see that it worked. You're backups will now be as compatable as possible with set top dvd players. Remember to always use good, high quality media and keep burn speed to 4x or slower especially on dl media. You can always try some 6x or 8x burns on quality media if you are having good success at 4x. Mort
Thanks again for the quick responses. I've always used FujiFilm, and after checking the make of them via the DVDIdentifier, it turns out they were the TYs--I guess that's why I never had a problem with them. But then Kivory, and everyone else here, mentioned how great Verbs are. I finished the remaining discs of the 100-pack of Fuji DVDs, sold my unopened 50 pack of them, and bought a 100-pack of Verbs for 45 on amazon. I've run into no problems Thanks again.
hey Mr Pink, some fuji's will also code out as ritek 03... mine did, still good media, bought them from best buy last week, 50 pack for 17.99.... just a fyi
Good tip! Thanks. Is there a way to figure out the "code" or the actual name of the discs without checking them with these programs? Meaning, is there a sign on the labeling that can tell me? I'm pretty sure bestbuy won't allow us to purchase them, open 'em, test 'em, and return them lol. Kivory mentioned that on the Verbs i can look for where it's manufactured: Taiwan, Singapore etc.
as far as i know, unless you have inner hub ring numbers memorized, you can only id media with these proggies.... but, i will tell you this, both best buy and circuit city will refund or exchange your media within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. i know, cuz i have done it before. as soon as i get home with a new spool, i id the media, and if it is not choice media, i simply return it that day. but the store is only like 3 miles away, so its no biggie. the last spool of fuji's i bought coded out as the ritek 03, but the one before that coded as yuden 02, and those happen to say made in japan on the label, but this recent purchase was made in taiwan, and were riteks.
I've just found out about booktyping today by reading posts. I'm installing a benq 1640 tomorrow and use clone dvd2. I know I need to get dvd+r blank media. So my question would be with what I have, what exactly do I need to do, so the dvd+r discs come out as dvd-rom? It sounds like that is the way to go, I just am not sure how to set it up.
capgeo, I gave you a link to benq qsuite in this thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/243300#1361718 which has the benq booktype utility in it. Download vs 2 and check it out.
Thanks, I'm not at home with any of the programs, so I was running a little blind, especially since I have never even heard of book typing before today. I think I should just stop posting and absorb all the good info. I received today. Thanks again.
You're welcome. Just open the booktype utility manager after you download qsuite and have your new benq DW1640 installed. Make sure you have the benq selected and then select change to dvd-rom if not already selected. Pretty simple and self explanitory proggy. Note: make sure the jumper on back your new drive is set correct. Mort
Thanks for all the good info. everyone. I just installed the benq1640 and a liteon dvd-rom. Copied my first movie(Longest Yard) took 15 minutes, used to take over an hour and now I can fire and forget with clone dvd, just put the original in the rom, the blank in the burner come back and it is done. I did not know about any of this until I read some of the responses. Everyone on here is great and I appreciate the opportunity to glean all this good information from the more experienced users out there. Thanks again. PS the 1640 does booktype to dvd-rom by default.
I have figured out how to booktype under decrypter. Is there a method to set the booktype for clonedvd2?
errrrr! Also, if set under one proggy will the burner carryover those parameters to a different proggy?
9mmruger1, Not usually. What burner are you using? Is you burner listed here, if so, you should be able to permanently booktype it? http://codeguys.rpc1.org/dvdrw_overview.html Or maybe you need a firmware update? Good luck, Rich
