    I have a LG GSA-4163DL. It works great. How would I change the booktype to DVD-rom for all proggys? Any idea?

    thanks

    9mmruger1,

    I saw someplace about your drive having the ability to bitset to DVD-ROM, but unfortunately I cannot find it, now.

    I would do a search on this site for your drive, and if that fails do one on cdfreaks.

    Sorry for not being more helpful,

    Rich

    As I recall, the LG GSA-4163 does not booktype +RW, just +R and +R DL.

    But it is worth a try.

    However, if that is the only way to booktype it (with a .bat file), what I would do is create a bat file that booktypes it, and then runs your favorite backup program(s), automatically everytime you go to backup.

    HTH,

    Rich

    I DO use DvdInfoPro to set booktype on my LG 4163B. I'm not very computer savvy, and did run into problems using Shrink/Nero. When I fooled around with the settings in Nero, I had problems with the booktyping and had to do a Acronis System Recovery, from the secure partition, to get things back to normal. I prefer to use DVDXCopyRF/Anydvd (generally movie only), for the time being. I'll wait for DL discs to go down in price before backing up my episodes. Setting the booktype in DvdInfoPro works best for ME.

    No, unfortunately this drive does not booktype +RW's.

    @Mort81

    In your experience if using dvdinfopro to set the booktype of the GSA 4163B would the "set" carry over to CloneDVD2?

    Opinions welcomed.

    I am really wanting to make sure that my backups are booktyped to dvd-rom so that the will play in my childrens players.

    9mmruger1,

    Well, I am not Mort, but the answer is no, it will not permanently booktype your drive. Go get a BenQ 1640 drive for around $40, they come booktyped as DVD-ROM. Actually, there alot of drives that can be booktyped.

    Good luck,

    Rich

    @9mmruger1,

    I've been using the booktype utility for my Liteon since May/June of 2004, and DvdInfoPro for my LG since June of 2005. It becomes second nature. I've maybe forgotten to change the booktype 3 times.

    To All who have been assisting me.

    I am booktyping with DVDdecrypter for each series of burns and it is working well, and is becoming second nature when using decrypter. I was curior about the CloneDVD2 issues as I have a registered copy of that program. I emailed slysoft with a recommendation, but realized that I probably should email elby with my recommendation. Mayby slysoft will pass it on. I think that CloneDVD2 would be a better (than it already is) program if it had a booktype utility built in it like decrypter does.

    Anyway, thank you all for your assistance.
