As Jerry746 suggest try it on another computer and see if it works, or if it has a firewire connection try that.

Yes..... you are correct. However, I just want to check his other drives DMA settings that's basically.

Seriously, I don't know what else to suggest if he's already reformatted the hard drive. He's got fairly decent processor (P4), 2.4GHz with 512 RAM. With the specs he stated, it should never took him 2 - 4 hours to do a burning using Nero. I suspect there is a possibility that there's a hardware issue going on or the USB cable is loose somewhere, possibly a bad USB cable.

That kind of takes us back to a possible problem with the computer itself. Possibly the ram is acting up as I stated before. If you can find out what motherboard is in the laptop, check to see if there are any updates for it. You already formated the HD and reinstalled the system so that should be good. Although USB ports are pretty basic see if there is any type update for the ports. Not much left.

    hi

have we checked aspi layer? maybe a motherboard upgrade on the chipset? like via 4in1 or intel chip drivers, go to website and update them!

i had the same buffer probs but my drive is internal and it was my hard drive that needed wiping and fresh format / defragging
