    Hi CaptStu
1st thing edit out your serial # in the log - it's in here at least 2x that I can - begins w/ 1A.

    Update Vision to 3.1.10.21 - here's a link

DiskPeripheral : TOSHIBA MK8025GAS atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
Turn DMA back on for the hard drive - here's a guide.

    File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS'
Roxio and Nero don't always play well together so you can try uninstalling Roxio and running the zap tool

    Binkie,

I don't know how to edit my post to remove the serial number - or why I need to do this. Since I still can't get the software to work . . .

Anyway, I followed the steps except for the removal of Roxio - the removal web required a download of a download manager that made a mess of my machine and required a cleanup and restore - so the download manager is gone and Roxio remains.

Tried again to create a DVD - the process took an hour and produced an absolutely blank disk. It also gave the message, "Hardware accelerator disabled"

Trying again on another DVD burner - but am beginning to give up hope.

Thanks for the pointer to the update - I'm sure that is required, but probably unrelated to whatever I've done wrong.

The surprising thing is, it worked twice, once produced a wrong format file on the DVD (TVIO original), and the second time, it worked perfectly.

    /Stu

To edit the post click on what looks like a pencil & paper to the right of your post.

You don't want someone else using your serial #.

I'd update package 2 of Nero - the update may take care of the error you're getting.

For the Hardware accelerator disabled error go here and enable it:
start>run> type in dxdiag. In the display tab look under 'directx features' and enable the ones that show disabled. Click on 'save all information.'

    Give that a go.

The disk wan't blank - but only a few frames could be read.

    The logfile contained the line:

NeroVision WARNING: DirectDraw HW acceleration not detected

(we had to turn down the graphics accelerator because PowerPoint screens were coming up without graphics - different problem)

There were a large number of reported errors:

I'm not sure what to do next - but I'm beginning to suspect it is a NERO issue since the error is reported on other threads.

Thanks in advance for the help. /Stu

Ok - update package 2 of Nero which includes Vision.

Enable which hardware accelerator is disabled while running Vision.

Is there DVD burning software available that doesn't take so long to make it work? It took just a few minutes to install the DVD burner = but that was days ago and I've only produced one test DVD.

I'm ready to buy another product -- or a real physical DVD burner that doesn't have user controlled software and go back to enjoying the movies.

Judging from the various blogs, everyone seems to have similar problems.

I really, really appreciate all your help = but if the software is this difficult to get working maybe I've chosen the wrong product?

    Thanks again. /Stu

Nero Vision isn't bad - it usually does a good job. But no software is 100% for every setup.
Try ConvertXtoDVD - another good one. Doesn't have some of the functionality of Nero like all the different menu option or editing.
It's a little faster - but most programs that convert/transcode a file to a dvd compliant one take more time.
It has a trial but leaves a watermark.

I spent the last few hours upgrading my brand new out of the box I paid cash for it version 6 of Nero to Version 7. I haven't tested to see if it works any better - but I did capture and enter my serial number from the just paid cash for it still warm just out of the box version 6.

The system replied - duh - the serial number I entered is for version 6 and I must spend $$$ to upgrade to version 7. It didn't tell me if I have any chance of version 7 working better than the I just paid cash fresh out of the box version 6 that apparently doesn't work in my environment.

I appreciate your sincere efforts to help - but it would be better if the bulletin board just said, Hero doesn't work - and they charge you to fix it even if the doesn't work version is new.

Sorry to sound bitter - I've put 3 nights into this effort to write a few versions of lost to a CD. Frustrated - but appreciative of everyone's help.

The first thing Nero Version 7 says is I can activate hardware acceleration by using the DirectX diagnostic tool.

One of the items installed by the Nero 6 to Nero 7 upgrade was DirectX.

Unfortunately, I can't find where they put it?????

When I go to the device manager, there is no hardware acceleration associated with the DVD - and DMA is on.

Anybody know where I can find DirectX? /Stu

DirectX is Microsoft not Nero - it's an api that multimedia & gaming.
Have the latest one installed 9.0c
Check this by going to start>run - type in dxdiag
The DirectX diagnostic tool will come up and list the version.
Here's a link to Microsoft's site for the latest - link

To enable the hardware accelerator (from my post above) while your in DirectX diagnostic tool click on the display tab. You'll see there which one is disabled and you can enable it here.

Sorry, I misspoke. I found DirectX - what I meant to say is how do I activate hardware acceleration in the DVD burner. It isn't an option anyplace I can find in DirectX.

I tried activating acceleration on the monitors - but there isn't apparently any on the external monitor that DirectX knows about - I slowed it down with a separate tool to get Microsoft PowerPoint graphics to work.

But, after all - the monitor can't be the issue when I'm lights-out burning a DVD from a TVIO-saved file.

    Thanks for your patience. /Stu

Check in the DirectX diagnotic tool (see posts above) - this is what's Nero's talking about. You'll see the Direct Draw Acceleration there.

I have 2 video adapters - one does not support direct draw acceleration, the other does - it is enabled on the one that does.

Pardon my lack of understanding - but why would acceleration on a video display that isn't being used cause the dvd burner to produce a bad dvd.

I could see playback being strange at times - but I don't play back on the computer.

Thank you again. Stoll lost recording Lost.

I wouldn't think it would affect it but for some reason Nero was accessing this one - it's looks like - when it gave the warning about directdraw.
Hopefully the update straighten all this out.
