You're so right sam, that psu has driven me insane the last year, not only is there a really loud whirring sound, but it vibrates soo much that I can hear it on the floor beneath my computer. Would you recommend any good quality, low noise, power supply units for 100 or less?
Corsair HX 520W. I'm running an overclocked Q6600 and HD4870X2 on that same PSU. It doesn't make a sound...
Put it this way, i'm running a Corsair 620HX and that's happily running my (stock) Q6600, 6 internal 500GB SATA2 hard drives, 3 optical drives, though the graphics card is just a cheapy & lowly Nvidia 6100 PCIe card
The 650TX is overkill for your PC. The 520HX is ample, runs quieter than the TX, and has modular cabling.
I personally dont think modular cabling is a good thing; while corsair psus are of good quality, modular cabling causes more resistance which can limit power output.
How much more resistance? This topic has been beat to death. The point is that in GOOD QUALITY(read: Corsair is good quality) power supplies modular or not has not made a difference and that there has been no evidence suggesting otherwise.
Plastic clip connectors add very little resistance (have you ever thought about how much resistance is added by cheap 99 pence Molex splitters?) - The Amphenol connectors used on Hiper units do seem to do so, however, so they're to be avoided.
yes it'll ad resistance, but so what? an extra 0.001% of resistance is really going to make the PSU to boom isnt it?
Resistance will drop the maximum current output on a particular rail, and drop the voltage on that rail as well. For modern high powered units, half an ohm of resistance would cause a big impact.
I've decided to stick with the Cooler Master until it gives me any trouble. I built the computer and the cables seem to fit very nicely and I have just enough cables for everything. It doesn't make as much noise as it did before, maybe because it's on the bottom now or just because the case is studier. Though if this one messes up for any reason I'm going for the 520HX.
I just have one more question though. When I check my system specs it says that I have 3.5GB of ram, even though I have a total of 4GB, should I worry about it saying this?
