Also, my burner came with my Sony laptop and is about 1 1/2 years old and I have never done anything to it. You know, if it ain't broke.... It is a Matshita 810 and I just upgraded the firmware to 104 yesterday. Thanks again
wrathloki, When my problems were software related, I would usually just do a system restore and it would fix it. HOWEVER!!!! PLEASE NOTE!!!! ... I did not do a full system restore, I always CREATE a RESTORE point BEFORE I upgrade any software, then if my system acts stupid after the upgrade / or new installed software, I first uninstall the software in question. If that does not help, I restore it back to the retstore point that I created. (Usually my restoration point is no more than a 24 hour difference of what I did) However, I would be surprised if your itunes is causing the problem. Is that all you have recently updated? Usually you will see problems right away after a software update/installation. If you were good for those two weeks after your update, its probably not that - but if you started having the problems very soon after that update, you may want to uninstall back to your previous version and see if the problem goes away.
Well i've cleaned the drive with an air can and a cleaning cd and no change. Could winamp be doing this? I installed that a few weeks ago. And zhelps, I haven't been burning things all that much the past couple weeks up until the day before i started this thread, just a cd here and there but that's about it, so it could have very well been a while ago this happened. Ohh and one more thing i'd like to add, a couple weeks ago i also did a mass purging of my computer, uninstalling a bunch of crap I didn't want/need, and did a mass spyware purging also (Spybot S&D, Ad-aware, Microsoft Anti-Spyware). After I did all that i defragged. Could this be related in some way? I didn't uninstall anything that would be integral to anything with burning, but maybe something could be linked, I dunno, what do you guys think?
wrathloki After reading you last post, I am thinking more and more it could be a software issue. You have made alot of changes in the past few weeks though - fixing could be like a needle in a haystack. Is it possible that you could do a retsore from a month ago or so BEFORE you started all the changes (you can always do an un-restore by the way). Of course, even by doing this may not necessarily prove it, but if everything goes back to normal it would be a good start. Have you put any very important info on there in the past few weeks? If so, back it up and try if all else continues to fail. Did you ever get a new burner to test?
laffin with wrathloki - As far as restores - even if you have not made any - your comp should have made at least one or two on its own by now. Do you know how to check for that?
Speaking of burn errors (yea I did look around and this was the first & closest related subject I ran over). COASTERS!!! We all make em. CD-R's don't phase me much, but damnit 1 minute into a dvd burn and I get an error kinda....burns my ass as well as the disk. It's not like I make that many. There's gotta be some program that will.. I dunno..."FORCE" a multisession type file system to add more data instead of a coke on the disk? Yes, No, Maybe??????
Well, still no change, this is driving me nuts, especially when I can't burn a usable cd after putting a new car audio system in :/. Now, as for system restore, I don't want to do that, because I have so much stuff to backup and the burner is having problems so I could lose data by backing it up...I could try, then do an unrestore, how do I check my restore points? There has got to be something else I can try other than the system restore though, does anyone know what I can do?
wrath, can you backup str8 to another HardDrive? Do a full files backup without having to rely on disks? I dont blame you not wanting to take the risk, nor even wanting to re-format - its a big pain. You gotta do something to get it back on track.
I could if i wanted to spend a couple hundred on a HD with 150 gigs. Now, there must be something I can look for, maybe in the registry, maybe in the files, is there anyone more technically inclined in software that can point me in the direction of problems to look for?
