    Hi all,
ummm....I have this annoying problem as follows:
This drive used to burn @ x4 speed for almost a year. However, recently it can only burn with x2 maximum.
I did the IDE thingy and reinstalled the drive yet to no avail.
I need help about getting it back to burn @ x4.
    Thank you in advance.

I heard that Matshita drives are not so good. and if your drive is old (3-4 or more years old), then it might have a hard time recording onto the new media that is out there. Your drive tries to recognize the media you are using and adjusts it's write strategies accordingly. So if your drive can't recognize the media properly then it might just write slowly to the disk! Have you recently switched to different media? Try to burn to 8x media and see if you have better results! Taiyo Yuden is best, IMHO, and then Verbatim..... but stay away from Made in India media.... check label of box or spindle! Made in Japan disks are best! Verbatims Made in Tawain/Singapore are good, too. good luck.

whichever software you used check it has a log in the folder of the program more over the output folder

it may help to diagnose your problem

not seen those type dvdrs before, but if you say it can burn @ 2x kool.

it may have something to do with multisession?

    Determine maximum speed : TRUE
    Simulate : FALSE
    Write : TRUE
    Finalize CD : FALSE
    Multisession : TRUE
    Multisession type: : Start multisession

leaving the disc open not finalizing to add more content.

If this is a virtual drive .... turn it off..... Nero doesn't like virtual drives... sometimes has problems when they are left on.

a little more RAM would be nice ..... hardly any wiggle room here! you're at the minimum!

this is Moser Baer media, made in India .. crappy media!
here is a media guide for you: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
this media guide is a good indication of what's good out there... but it's not without it's faults. I do not agree with it's TDK listing as a top rate media! TDK is second rate at best! but all in all it's a good indication of what's out there and what's is really good to write to! I strictly use Taiyo Yuden only and this stops many problems from occuring!

Like I said.... the burner will only burn to the media at it's write strategies that is built into it's firmware! So if your trying to burn to media that it doesn't have proper write strategies for... the burner will then write at a generic speed.... which for your burner is 2x! I would use better media and see how it goes..... Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim!

I was using the same media, the same everything and i was able to burn @ x4 many times.
Different people posted different things which means no one knows the real solution.
If you please post the right thing after this post i would be grateful.
    Thank you.

I stand by my advise given....... MBI is Moser Baer media made in India which is poor quaility media. Just because it worked before doesn't mean that it will work all the time because your media is crap! and not all DVDs in a spindle is of the same quality of MBI that did work! This is what I am talking about........ crappy media..... and you haven't used Taiyo Yuden or Verbatims and yet you dismiss the fact that you are using crappy media!
and yet you don't know if the advise given is "the right thing"! because you haven't even tried better media! but that's ok..... keep going on what you are doing and experience the same results. Advise was given ..... don't dismiss it until you tried it!
