Burn Xbox360 games in Mac OS X?

I have a new version coming out soon. Unfortunately, not much on the stealth checking has improved short of some invalid TOC handling. The new version has a completely redesigned GUI and has functional configurations. It will also allow you to configure OSx360 to check and burn in one click (If the disc image is valid and a blank disc is inserted. It will also have an auto-update feature thanks to Sparkle. Lots of other optimizations as well.

I have done alot of testing with my new KREON Drive, and unfortunately it seems that the drive will not work in OS X via USB (without a custom driver). I will test the drive in my desktop once it is up and running again. I will continue to try to work at this, but every time I try to create a plugin to the device, It bails. No mac software I have found that send custom CDB commands will connect to the drive via USB. I really think this is isolated to the USB-ATAPI Driver. I have another external drive that works fine, but upon further inspection it does not use a USB-ATAPI Interface Driver.

I've just recieved a few e-mails with users stating issues with burns failing... I will probably need to keep on saying this since no one reads the documentation..

Here's a sample log and what it log shows me:

    From DiscRecording Log:
    OSx360: Burn started, Thu Feb 28 23:13:41 2008
OSx360: Burning to DVD+R DL (RITEK D01) media with DAO strategy in MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E ZA0E via ATAPI.
OSx360: Requested burn speed was 2x, actual burn speed is 2.4x.
    OSx360: Burn failed, Thu Feb 28 23:13:57 2008
OSx360: Burn sense: 3/73/03 Medium Error, Power calibration area error
OSx360: Burn error: 0x8002006D The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.

If you are using your internal Matshita Burner (low quality) with Ritek media (low quality - usually re-branded Memorex media), you a sure to have burn failures and/or unreadable disc errors. In the Release notes and in the forum I describe the issue with this combination. Try Verbaitm or AOne media and this should fix your problems. Using an external burner is also a good solution.

Reading the included documentation would have helped as well.

I'm pushing out a new version, but let it be known that there have been many changes and limited testing. I have tested it out on my MacBook with an internal and external burner.

I have not completed everything, but what's good is that it now includes an updater which can check to see if there is a new version. This way, I can post bug fixes and enhancements much quicker.

    OSx360 v1.0 Beta 1
    -Automatic Updates via Sparkle.
-Completely new GUI with toolbar controls.
-User Defaults Configuration (Some functionality is disabled until added).
-Open Menu and Open Recent Menu now functional.
-File Types iso/bin/000 now associated with OSx360 (can be configured to open from finder).
-Drag and Drop iso/bin/000 files onto Application Icon to open.
    -Fixed Disc Image reading.
-Fixed crash from invalid Xbox 360 TOC entries.

Anyone have any feature requests for OSx360? I am kind of at a standstill right now, and I want some work to do...

I used your program all the time for my 360, but the US version of SuperSmash Bros Brawl just came out for the wii, and since they know of piraters, they switched to DL discs. I have a macbook pro and obviously can't get imgburn on here, but all the other forums i've read say they can burn it in Imageburn. Is there any way to burn this ISO image file to a DL disc using your program?

As far as OSx360 is concerned, it will not burn wii disc images. If you tried to use it, the disc would probably NOT be readable in the wii.

I would just use Apple's Disk Utility, which I personally know works well with Wii disc images. I would also use good media as the Wii is known to have a picky drive as well.

Very true. The only reason I ask is that this is the first time Nintendo is using dual layers. I normally use my PC to burn my media, but my macbook has the dual layer burner. Is there a program that i can use for my Mac that will let me perform a layer break? I think the appropriate break is 2084960. Do you think if i run on my parallels to windows, there'll be enough CPU to support the burn?

I know that iBurn360 allows you to specify the layerbreak. It is made for 360 disc images, but iDog decided to allow the layer break to be specified by the user. I didn't think it would be an issue for OSx360, but it may work for your purpose. It will probably ask to "Patch" the iso, but just click no.

I can't guarantee anything, but it may work.

Thanks, Wolfienuke. I'll give it a try and post back when i'm done.

Rats, it doesn't give me the option to burn without patching. My only options are to Patch or Abort.

Are you sure? The version I have from iDog has the 3 options - Abort, Patch, Burn without Patching...

Nope, nothing. Is it possible that I don't have one up to date? I just downloaded it from idog.appleguru.org

Well, I apologize for that. I have the source code from iDog, and my build seems to be able to burn without patching...

Maybe I'll see what I can whip up quick for you Wii owners. I've seen some topics where only certain mod chip require the layer break. I can't say for sure since I have not tried this at all.

    I just updated OSx360 to v1.0 Beta 3.

I am only releasing this with some minor GUI updates, but most importantly an option to specify a custom layer break. This is not needed for Xbox 360 disc images, since the layer break is hard coded.

If you wish to try to burn Wii disc images that require a custom layer break, here's what you need to do...
-In the configuration screen, turn "Verify on Open" off and turn "Require Stealth Verification" off. These checks will fail for Wii disc images. Turning them off allows burning unverified disc images.
-In the configuration screen, turn on "Specify Custom Layer Break" and set it to "2084960" or whatever you need it to be.

This feature is UNTESTED, but should work... If anyone tries this, please send me your results.

I tried the new OSx360 with the Wii image that is being discussed here and it worked. I burned the image on my Quad G5 under 10.5.2 with no problems at all. Prior to this there were no other native solution that I could find that would burn that image correctly other than command line utilities.
I did not try it on my intel box yet but expect it would work on it too.

    Thanks for providing a solution.

No problem... I did test this out yesterday and it worked for me as well. It only took a few minutes to modify OSx360 to burn with a user specified layer break so It wasn't much trouble. I probably won't do any more Wii iso functions until I get in the mood to make a separate application designed for Wii disc images.

happy to report that i used OSx360 for the first time and it was a success. i downloaded the newest version and everything ran fine. i was kind of nervous because i was using a memorex dvd+r dl cd for the first time as well, but it all ran smoothly. just thought i'd report a victory.

I was reading this thread and was curious about something. I know you mentioned the previous methods force a layer break by adding 0's to the end of the image. My question is, can this program you've made OSx360 burn an image that has already had 0's added to the end to force a layer break successfully? I know you said they are not valid in Windows after being modified, but would your program still be able to burn them properly?

No. OSx360 sets the layerbreak properly. If you try to burn a image that was patched by X360 ISO Hacker, it will either fail to write or fail to read in the 360.

    Hey Wolfienuk,

so basically you would suggest not to use the Mashita built in Superdrive with the macbook to burn 360 dvds? Can you suggest a DVD rewriter which I should buy which would do the job I want it to do? Cheap and good as possible :) Im located in the UK so preferably in £s
Im sick of wasting dvd +r dls :-(
