    hey guys. please help if you can. I am trying to burn a DVD movie using nero. i followed the instructions implicitly, but the burned DVD will play only on my computer and not on my standalone DVD player. I have no idea why not as i have burned DVDs before and they've worked.

    When you say same stuff do you mean the same brand? If so what is the brand? or is it from the same spindle/package as others that worked previously?

    Did you burn it as a data dvd? or under dvd video in nero.I have burned a dvd that would play only on a computer and not on a player, because I burned with roxio 6 as a data dvd.That was a mistake.Try adding the files to the Video_ts file and none in the Audio_ts in the dvd video option of nero and then try it on your player.

    @schmankey - post the last section of your Nero log, minus your serial number which usually begine with 1A21. Log should be in "c:\Program Files\ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log" or similar..

    ok...first thing, i'm using sony brand DVD+R (as i've always used and has worked in the past), and its from the same spindle that i've used previously. And yes, i burned it as a DVD video using Nero as i've done before (and i made sure that this file works on a friend's computer--there's no problem with the video file) and here is the cropped out session from my last nero attempt (THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE TRYING TO HELP FIGURE THIS OUT FOR ME):

    all i've found on your media is
    and
    all i can think off is your standalone is a tad picky, i know you can book type '+' discs, liteon drives can anyways..

    PS Something to keep an eye on - your memory usage, you're not leaving yourself much room to manoeuvre there -
    can't see if your firmware is outdated or not, can't seem to find your drive in a google search

    [bold]EDIT-[/bold] - hang on i missed the obvious - it's a RW disc. I know my own standalones won't play the few RW discs i have.. (i only use -R)

    @creaky,

    You are right.....as soon as I read your post with his quote, I noticed the RW. Good catch.

    hey...you guys are so thorough (thanks), does it make a difference that i have been able to burn onto an rw before and it worked fine, and now when i try it, it doesn't work?

    schmankey,

    If you're rewriting to the same dvd+rw, try doing a full erase on it prior to burning.

    If I read right, you're useing a NEC dvdrw, you can booktype your +r/rw media dvdrom making them much more compatable.

    Make sure the disk is NTSC and not pal (that is if your stand alone it NTSC)

    I had this problem once myself and the disk was in pal format. heh
