My dvd+-RW philips dvd8631 doesn't seem to read my compusa discs that i got a few weeks ago. I tried to burn different things, but dvd decrypter, nero and alcohol 120 all say illegal disc and just dont burn. I dunno what the problem is, can anyone help?
It's probably the compusa media. Run the disc thru Nero ToolKit and post back the manufacturer id. Make sure your firmware is up to date also - that may help. The latest firmware for your drive is GD30.
Sounds like probably firmware update is in order. Check out this thread for a lot of info on your phillips drive, should be some sites to download the latest update in that thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/179003
I agree with the above mentioned. In addition, you need to use high quality media such Taiyo Yuden (Fuji or Sony "Made In Japan"), Verbatim, Maxell "Made In Japan" and Ritek for your next dvd burning. Also keep in mind to update your Nero to the latest, if it's Nero 6 Ultra, then the current is 6.6.0.16. Don't burn at any higher than 4X.
